Taking a deep breath of the night air, Krycek steps out of the dorms and pulls out a pack of cigarettes. Tapping one out, he holds it up, looking at it for a long minute, expression reflective. Don't know why I want one. Not that I don't know what they do to you. Then again, not like I don't have a whole life to live over however I want.

Krycek lights up, breathing out a plume of smoke as he watches the town, mind elsewhere. But he certainly wouldn't mind company.

The smile fades a bit and he shrugs, maybe a bit self-conscious at her reaction. "Fade into the background, that's me."

Rory realizes she's offended the guy, and walks over to him. "I'm sorry, you just startled me. I'm very jumpy," she adds with a grin. "I'm Rory, by the way."

He nods, smiling wryly in return as his self-consciousness retreats a bit. "Alex Krycek." Turning his head so as not to blow smoke in her face, he shifts slightly on his feet. "I don't blame you - there's a lot about this place to make someone jumpy."

"Tell me about it," Rory says. "Do you have powers, or magic, or machinery or anything?"

Krycek pauses a moment as if trying to decide if he should say anything, then he shrugs. "I was dead, once. But other than that, no powers, no magic, nothing special." He smirks. "Being dead seems pretty boring up against mutants and the embodiment of Death wandering the halls."

"Wow. Dead once. That's...insane. And don't talk to me about being boring - I'm a girl from Connecticut. That's it," she says, exhaling and flinging out her arms.

He smiles, flicking ash from his cigarette and taking another slow drag. "I have a feeling that nothing's boring here. One man's amazing power is someone else's everyday skill." Contradicting himself a bit, but he seems comfortable with playing Devil's Advocate.

"I don't recommend being dead, by the way. Kind of a mind-fuck." Arching eyebrows, he cocks his head with a shadow of older man charm and grins.

She grins. "I was actually thinking that when you said it. I was like, 'Wow...he was dead. What a total mindjob.' But ladies don't use that kind of language, y'know," she adds with a wink.

He laughs, making him seem much more boyish. "Yeah, sorry about that," he says, shrugging a little in apology. "But, you know, you seem happy. Cheerful. That's worth a lot with all the high school drama going on around you."

"Well," Rory says, shuffling her feet and grinning, "that's partly due to the fact that I had a really good day."

[ooc: I, on the other hand, have had an exhausting one. If Rory doesn't reply, she's not dead or antyhing - it just means I've fallen asleep, and a reply will be made tomorrow. :)]

"Yeah?" He grins back. "Good to know this school's treating some people well." Rory seems like a good girl type - he's never known many of those - so he doubts the grin's indicative of anything particularly juicy. ~~Not that he can't think about that possibility a bit. Or a lot.~~
