[Xander responds to an e-mail.]

Xander, backpack still over one shoulder because he hadn't yet stopped by his own room to check out whether the earlier mess had been cleaned up or what the latest desecration of his bed might be, knocked twice on the closed door of dorky_broots' room.

"Anybody home?"

Xander tried to turn his laugh into a cough, or his cough into a laugh, or either into a snort, but they combined to form mecha-snork, which hurt his nose, and didn't have any cool robotic powers.

"You could say that, yeah." He sat down, unconcerned by the debris around him. "Don't worry about the room; not exactly Martha Stewart myself -- and that's on a good day. After this morning? This place is the Taj Mahal compared to mine."

"Um, I was wondering about, um, er, what he was? And what happened in your room?"

Xander raised an eyebrow. "Evil bloodsucking undead plus major dickweed, and I have absolutely no idea. Came home to find the room seriously and I mean seriously trashed -- but only his stuff. Which is a pretty big change from the usual, considering he uses my bed for an ashtray, most of the time."

"Ew, why are you rooming with him then? Um, well, why do you call him evil?"

Xander ticked the questions off on his fingers. "One, because principalconnor thought it would be funny; I'm laughing on the inside. Two, because evil scumsucking murdering all-the-hot-water-using-up son of a motherless three-testicled goat is too long to fit on his business cards."

"Well, um, if you'd really like to you can probably move into my room." Broots indicates the couple of square feet not taken up by his various things. "Well, um, do you have any specific reasons for calling him evil?"

Xander considered the size of space indicated, and smiled politely. "I'll...keep that in mind. For emergencies."

He crocheted knitted his brows. "Specific reasons for calling Angelus evil? Aside from the fact that he's a vampire, you mean?"

Broots shrugged. "Yeah, aside from that. Which still creaps me out, tell you the truth."

"Well, that's a healthy start. Vampires should creep you out, what with the whole evil, bloodsucking, yadda yadda thing. They're demons. At least the ones where I come from are."

"A healthy start would be being a few miles away, I'd think."

"No argument there. But the dorms are paid for; off-campus housing..." Xander shook his head. "Not so much."

"Um, yeah." Awkward pause. "How do you know Angelus anyway?"

Xander propped his elbows on his knees, and his chin on his open palms.

"The long, bloody, emotionally scarring version, or the short... bloody, emotionally scarring version? He dated one of my best friends, back when he had a soul. Things... didn't go well. People died. Also fish."

Broots bites down on his lip. "People died? That's...not good. How was he even allowed to go here?"

Xander shrugged, his voice a bit bitter when he spoke. "Beats hell out of me. I guess he managed to snow somebody into thinking he was safe."

"Wait, you said he was with one of your friends before? Sorry, I'm just a bit confused and very, very nervous."

Xander nodded. "Yeah, he dated Buffy. It was a Thing. Like big, orange, made out of rock, clobberin' time Thing."

"Buffy?" Broots stares at Xander as if he grew a second head. "And why orange?"

Xander nodded. Then he winced. "Wonder if she didn't want that getting around. I wouldn't want it getting around if I'd dated him."

He added after a second, "Orange because... I don't know. Cosmic radiation? Explains pretty much anything, really. Except for why Sue Storm and her clothes always went invisible at the same time, instead of the clothes first, no matter how many letters to the editor I... uh, people.... sent in."

Broots ignored the earlier, more boring, comments about dating and went right to the interesting part. "That's because the clothing was almost a part of her and when she made herself invisible, she made the clothes invisible too. So kinda like a second skin I guess? Stupid censors. I always thought it was kind of cheap of them and they just should have made it that her clothes didn't go invisible at all and just she did. That would have been very interesting."
