Outside Room 228...

River knocks on the door, stretching her senses to discern whether anyone's within. Nobody's asked me yet, so... I just hope asking first isn't some manner of social faux pas.

River opens the door and peers around it. "Hey, Chloe. Do you have a minute? I had some questions for you..."

"I have plenty of minutes," Chloe replies, gladly setting her books aside to invite River in. "Anything to keep me away from Biology." She smiles. "So what's up?"

River steps quickly inside and puts her back against the door. "A couple of things, actually. First, I wanted to know what might be a good time for us to talk about that investigation of the recent weird occurances."

"And second..." River hesitates, searching Chloe's expression. "Has anyone asked you to Homecoming yet?"

Chloe pauses for a moment. With all of the zombie madness, she'd almost completely forgotten about the missing students and teachers. Some investigator she was. "Any time in the evening would probably be good. I've got class during most of the day, and you can keep me from more of my homework at night."

She gives River a sardonic smile at the second question. "No, no one's asked me. I think I owe Han Solo a dance for something he did for a bunch of us last night - long story, trust me, you don't want to know. But I haven't had anyone actually ask me to the dance."

Shyness won't help me here. River takes a deep breath and looks Chloe in the eyes. "When we were talking before, I thought I sensed ... interest. So would you like to go to Homecoming with me?"

The sudden pause in the conversation, pregnant with tension, makes River rethink her question. As the seconds stretch out, she adds, "Or not. But think about the investigation... okay?"

Flushed, and feeling as though she's somehow made a social misstep, she turns and reaches for the door.

"River, wait!" Chloe says quickly, trying to catch her before she leaves. "I...wow." She gives River a nervous smile, taking a few steps to close the gap between them. "I'm sorry. I wasn't expecting that question, and it's not often people catch me so off guard." She has to pause again, despite the tension, just to think. River definitely strikes Chloe as the type of person she should get to know better. She wants to go to Homecoming, and she certainly doesn't want to go by herself. And after last night, it's more than obvious that all the boys at the school are hopeless...

"I, yeah. I'd love to go to Homecoming with you," she says, smiling fully now.

River smiles as she turns back, relieved. "Oh, good. I wasn't sure, but..." She shrugs, spreading hands in a who knows? gesture. "The guys around here seem to be so caught up in their own dramatic angst. Either that, or already involved with someone. So, um... how does this Homecoming thing work? I remember Lily saying that it had something to do with 80's and 'come as you aren't', but I don't really know what that means."

Chloe laughs at River's assessment of the guys. "They are pretty caught up in themselves. But I guess the girls are finding ways around that," she adds with a shy smile. "All the 80's has to do with Homecoming is that it's the theme - everyone's supposed to dress like they're from the 1980's, but that's a little easier said than done. Everyone comes with their dates, and there's music and dancing and that's usually when they announce the Homecoming King and Queen too." She trails off a bit, not sure of what else to explain.

"So... should I dress up like someone out of one of those movies I rented?" River raises a questioning eyebrow. "Some of them I could see myself in, but others..."
