There is silence on the other end of the phone, and then a hoarse voice speaks.

"Maia?"

"Phoebe, baby. Oh God are you ok?"

Phoebe clears her throat. "I'm breathing. I wanted to call and let you know that I haven't disappeared."

Maia melts into the phone letting out a breath. "I was so worried. Everyone said you were on assignment and were fine but I knew you were not fine. What happened?"

"Belthazor hurt me, Maia. I couldn't handle it and I asked Spider to send me on the most dangerous mission he had."

"Phoebe!! Oh God, why Phoebe" Maia's voice is scared "We love you, you don't need him. You put yourself in danger." Maia is crying now. "You put yourself in danger. I love you please know that. Don't let him hurt you like this."

Phoebe is in tears again. "I love you, too, Maia. I just...it hurts so bad. It's like he ripped me apart. When I come back to school, I'm probably going to be living with Paige and Piper for awhile...maybe." Phoebe let out a choked sob. "I thought he cared about me."

Maia is quite listening to Phoebe. "Darling, I- I dont know what to say. I am so sorry." Maia's heart is broken for Phoebe. "Phoebe, darling. Stop crying..Shhh listen to me stop crying. Its ok, I know it hurts I know, shhh. Listen to me, come home Phoebe. Come back to school. We're here. Piper, Paige and I, we're here and we love you so much. Will you sweetie will you come back for us?"

"I can't seem to stop crying, Maia," Phoebe sounds miserable. "I'll be home soon, I promise. I just have to finish his assignment."

Maia silently screams at herself for sounding so rough. "I know sweetie. I didn't mean to sound so rough. You loved him so much and he hurt you like that. He doesn't deserve you. I'm so sorry that you went through that. What do you want me to do? Tell me Phoebe and I'll do it." Maia's mouth is set in a firm line.

Phoebe takes a breath on the other end of the line and then she starts speaking.

"You didn't sound rough. First, please, please don't tell anyone you've heard from me, not even Sara. I know that's asking a lot, Maia, but she's my favorite teacher and I really don't want her worrying. You don't need to tell Piper and Paige you've heard from me as they have, as well." She pauses, sniffling. "I want you to help me prepare for these damn elections. I cannot stay away forever and focusing on campaigning will help---besides I don't want Belthazor's friend Draco winning the presidency."

It's obvious that Phoebe is still crying, but she is trying to sound strong. "Please, make up a list of concerns and needs for the school, including any complaints or compliments overheard by students. We also need to get some posters up. I won't let them beat me."

Maia sighs heavily and bites her lip. "I-I won't but if she asks if your ok. I am going to tell her you are. I won't lie to her." Maia plays with the phone cord for a minute. "We'll beat them. Draco is not going to beat us." Maia pauses. "I love you Phoebe, please be ok. Sweetie if I could take it all away I would you know that." Maia is keeping her voice smooth and low trying somehow to comfort Phoebe's pain.

"I would never ask you to lie to her, Maia. That would be cruel and unfair to both of you." She swallows. "I love you, too, Maia. I know you'd take away the pain if you could."

Maia holds the phone tightly trying to send a hug through the phone wires. "You take care of yourself ok? Promise me. Promise me your going to come back safe." Maia keeps the phone tighter. "when are you coming home?" Maia whispers, I miss you so much Phoebe

"I promise you that I'm coming back, Maia. I promise you that." Phoebe says softly. "I'll be home after the Journalism field trip with Spider Jerusalem. I miss you, too, Maia."

Maia squeezes her eyes shut and she fights tears. Phoebe's heart is so broken and it hurt just to hear her voice. "I- I put some new posters up. You weren't here to ask so the slogan I put on it is vote for phoebe. vote for hope. vote for the president who cares about the student voice." Maia clears her throat still trying to keep Phoebe from knowing she was crying. "Its lame I know" Maia manages a weak laugh. "I will see you when you get back ok."

"Actually, I think that sounds like a great slogan Maia. Thank you for putting up posters. I'm lucky to have such a good friend."

Maia starts to cry now openly. "Don't say that Phoebe. I'm not. I screamed at you in study hall. I've been more wrapped up in Sara then making sure you were ok." Maia starts crying harder. "I'm not, I'm not a good friend. I'm sorry Phoebe. I'm sorry for everything."

Phoebe's voice turns very soothing, more concerned now for Maia than her own pain. "Maia, stop, sweetheart, stop crying. You are a good friend. You were shocked to see me talking with someone you knew was going to hurt me. Sweetheart, please don't cry. I'm glad you have Sara. You are a very dear friend and I love you for it. If it makes you feel any better, you could go yell at Belthazor some."

((OOC: Bel's mun she has no problem with Maia going off on him and making him more miserable. Also, seeing Phoebe's face popping up everywhere on those posters, which I love, by the way, is making Bel twitch.))

Maia quiets her crying listening to Phoebe's words. Maia manages a small laugh at the last part. "Yeah" Sniffs "I'd like to." Maia pauses "Its going to be ok Phoebe. I promise."

((OOC: Glad you like them. Maia is talking with Bel. now but not hollering, she is staying really calm so far. I am thrilled you like the posters, though ya gotta explain the nose ring now. *giggles*))

Phoebe smiles through the phone. "I'm sure the whole school has heard by now what happened. I didn't even have to tell anyone details. Everyone just seems to know what happened."

"Are you angry at me Phoebe? I tried to tell you, what was going to happen." Maia's voice if full of worry. "I tried to tell you."

"Oh, Maia...no. I'm not angry at you. It's not your fault that I was stupid and believed he loved me. I have a new power that kicked in the other day, and I felt everything he was feeling, so I thought he really loved me." Phoebe wipes tears away. "You were trying to protect me. I was the one who didn't listen."

"You feel him" Maia is stunned.

"Yeah," Phoebe whispers. "I feel him."

Maia drops the phone and quickly grabs it back "Sorry. Phoebe.. how, how can you feel him?"

Phoebe sighs and shakes her head. "I can't explain it, but I was able to feel his emotions and that he was greatly upset. I went to him and he said he loved me."

Maia's voice is a whisper now. "He loves you?"

"He said he did...but I guess he doesn't. If he did, he wouldn't have done this to me."

Maia sighed. "Maybe it was for the best Phoebe. We know he is not a good person."

"That's the thing Maia, I felt there was good in him." Tears are running down Phoebe's face again and she's trying not to let them show in his voice. "I don't know what happened...but I guess it doesn't matter. I guess the words were just words." Phoebe is quite obviously destroyed by all of this. "It hurts so much. And Jayne, Jayne has been so nice. He held me as I cried the other night."

Maia is quite letting Phoebe talk. She hears Phoebe's tears as her own are falling silently for her friend.

"I just don't understand, Maia. And I don't know how I'm going to face him and his frinds at school."

"Don't worry about that Phoebe. You will not face them alone. I promise. Between Piper, Paige and I. We won't let you go through this alone ok."

"Okay. I'll be home soon, I promise. I may just hide in my room for awhile...maybe I'll see if I can move in with Piper and Paige..."

"You do what you need to darling don't worry about anything. If you need to hide and get lonely we'll keep you company. We'll be there for you, however you need us. I love you Phoebe, I mean it anything you need." Maia hesitates "If you need to stay here in my room, I mean if he bothers you at your room, your more then welcome to. I don't stay in here much."

"I don't think being alone for me would be a good idea. I know you love me, I love you, too. I'm glad to know you'll be there for me. Could you tell Piper I called you?"

I will. darling, take care and I will see you soon. We won't leave you alone I promise.

"Alright, Maia. Thank you. I'll talk to you soon."

Phoebe haangs up the phone.
