"Just wondering, you guys all seem close." He shrugs and stops for a moment as they reach the clearing with the view on the ocean. They're higher up from the beach right now, standing at the beginning of the cliffs that make up Serenity Cove. "There's a path down, it's pretty steep but should be no problem. Unless you'd rather just follow the cliffs."
She sighed. "Yeah, I've known Jack, Janet and Dan...Doctor Jackson practically forever, it seems. Kawalsky less so. I can't imagine my life without them in it."
"How steep are we talking about here? I don't want to be on crutches, in case of another zombie attack or something. Being able to run away is good."
"That's cool. I didn't know anyone when I first came here."
He chuckles and leads her to the path. It's steep and only wide enough for one person to walk, but there's plenty of handholds along the way. "You should be fine, you've got the right shoes on and the others didn't have a problem with it yesterday either. I'll go first."
"My mom wanted to come, but I think I'm going to ask her not to. If she hears anything about those zombies, she's so going to make me go back home." He makes it down the path and onto the beach. "I like it here too much to go home already."
"That's too bad about your mom, but probably not a bad idea, under the circumstances. Do you miss her?" Oh, dumb question, Sam. Of course he misses his mother. After all, don't you miss yours?
"Yeah, I do. And my sister and my dog." He smiles ruefully. "But I've made friends here, so it's not like I feel lonely or anything. I'd love to have seen mom's reaction to John, though."
"Thanks. Really, it happened 23 years a while ago. I'm mostly okay about it. Y'know, until something like a parents' weekend comes up and I don't have anyone coming. Maybe I'll just go drinking with Sheppard."
She brushes a strand of sweaty hair out of her eyes. "No, I'm pretty sure he said they weren't coming." She grins. "Maybe we'll have a 'don't you wish you were parent-free' activity."
Sam didn't miss his look. Seemed Cameron Mitchell was a lot more observant than some people gave him credit for. "Thanks," she huffed. "Wow, I really needed to get out here. Not only is it gorgeous, but I really need to stay in shape if I want to get into the Air Force Academy."
"It's weird though, how many people around here want to actually get in the Air Force," Cameron grinned at Sam, more to see her reaction than anything.
Sam stumbled in surprise, but didn't fall to the ground. "Stupid tree root." She gave a half-hearted chuckle. "Uh, yeah, weird, huh?" It's ever weirder how many people are already in the Air Force and are just waiting around to be old enough to take their rightful spots.
"You alright?" He reached out a hand, lightly taking her arm until he was sure she wasn't going to fall flat on her face. "I mean, there's you, Sheppard, Kawalsky and me. That I know of anyway. Here I was thinking I was crazy to want to join."
"Yeah, I'm fine, thanks," she said, blushing at her klutziness. He'd think it was even stranger if he knew about Jack, Daniel, and Janet. "Why do you want to join? And I don't think it's at all crazy, but maybe that's because my Dad was in the service, too. It's kind of a family tradition with us Carters."
"I want to fly an F-16." Cameron grinned. "I'm not sure if there really is a why, I just have always wanted to fly and well, if you can help people while at it?"

"She is," He glances sideways with a smile. "Thanks. Doesn't mean you can't head down there with someone, though." He shrugs slightly.

"Thanks," she said, smiling. "I may take you up on that at some point

"Sure," he cuts into a narrow path to the left, leading towards the sea. "You and Janet, you knew each other before you came here, right?"

She follows, momentarily stunned by the sight of the reflection of the school in the water. "Yeah, for about seven years. Why?"
