Vala wanted him to walk around with a sandwich board announcing her love for Dean Bristow. VALA WANTED DEAN BRISTOW? Aside from the fact that he had very nice gray hair, he was DEAN BRISTOW.

Kawalsky needed somewhere to hide, and fast.
