Baking Night (2nd Floor Dorms)

Janet wasn't going to the memorial bonfire. It wasn't that she didn't care, it was just-- She short-circuited that train of thought and grabbed a bag of supplies from the corner of her closet. There was another bag in the fridge, and she grabbed her cartoon slippers before heading to the common area kitchen that Lee usually used to make toast.

She emptied the supplies for chocolate chip cookies onto the table--carefully, in the case of the carton of eggs--and started measuring out flour.

And if this was what she and Cassie did on the bad days back in Colorado, no one else needed to know that.

"Oh, joy. I outrank Carter in the cooking department," Parker mutters. She puts the sheets down, checks the oven, sees that it's on, and dons the goofy-looking oven mits. Then she shoves the two cookie sheets in without spilling anything, and triumphantly shuts the door. "Ha!"

"Jack outranks me in the cooking department, Parker," Sam muttered. She couldn't help laughing at the proud look on Parker's face as the girl shut the oven door. "Looks like you're a natural, though."

"O'Neill can cook?" Parker looks outraged. "That's just not fair. He should be much worse at it than us. I mean you." She gives the oven a proprietary pat. "Even if I'm a beginner."

"Jack...is better than I am," Sam said, looking briefly at the ceiling. When no lightning seemed to be forthcoming, she continued, "But he's definitely not better than Janet. Or Murray. Or Daniel, though Daniel's taste in food to make is sometimes a little bizarre."

"And yet every time Jack grills, everything is charred to a crisp," added Janet.

"He gets testosterone poisoning," Sam laughed.

"Hunh." Parker looks intrigued. "I never would have guessed it. Although I'm glad Murray and Janet beat him. Why is Daniel's food so weird?"

Sam shrugged and ate another fingerful of cookie dough as she considered Parker's question. "Mostly because he grew up all over the world and then traveled a lot to exotic places because of his archeological digs."

Janet grins at Parker. "Good job." She glances at her watch. Ten minutes from now, she's pulling the cookie sheets out of the oven. Otherwise she'll be treating someone for burns.
