In the third floor common room (locked to Veronica)

Rory flops on the couch after the StuCo meeting, and absently flips on the TV. She momentarily considers going to get Vladdie, but decides against it. He's probably still asleep, anyway.

[ooc: Conversation is NFB simply because we don't want V's sooper-sekrit clues to hit the airwaves yet. But it's totally fine if V and Ror are seen talking.]

Veronica is walking through the dorm and notices Rory in the third floor common room. She sighs. You have to talk to her, Veronica Mars. Quit being a baby.

She walks in and takes a seat. "Hey, Rory, how are you?"

"Veronica! Hi," Rory says, grinning. "I'm pretty good. How're you? I never see you these days."

She shrugs. "I've been around. Just busy with the paper and classes and everything."

After a pause, she says, "Hey, Marty asked me to look into Kitty's death and he told me you were with him that night."

Rory's smile fades. "Yeah, I was there. Marty and I took my dog for a walk, and then he heard a noise and ran off. And then I ran into George Lass and...Kitty."

"Look, I know this is hard. But, Marty seems to think he might become a suspect and I don't think he did it."

She looks down. "And I wouldn't want to see the wrong person accused."

Rory nods. "How can I help? I've never...y'know, been involved in something like this before. And I don't want Marty implicated anymore than you do," she says softly.

Veronica leans forward and lowers her voice, even though there's no one else in the room.

"Tell me exactly what happened that night, even if it seems inconsequential."

She pulls out a tablet and her favorite pen.

Rory closes her eyes, and bites her lip momentarily before responding.

"Okay. I called Marty and asked him to go for a walk with me and Vladdie, because I wanted to get out to clear my head - I'd had a majorly bad day - and I didn't want to walk by myself. So, Marty and I were walking around the park, and we talked about my day, and Parents' Weekend and stuff. And then Marty heard a noise, and gave me his gas mask." Rory glances at Veronica. "It's still in my room if you need it for evidence or something.

"Anyway, so Marty gave me his gas mask when he heard the noise, and then we ran into Kitty, who was out for a walk of her own. And Marty ran off, presumably to investigate the noise, and Kitty and I chatted for a bit. Then George Lass joined us...and then Logan found us. Um, Angela had left him a message saying I was upset or something. And that's when George and Kitty left us."

Rory swallows, but continues. "And then Vladdie - that's my dog - got away from me, and I went to get him, and told Logan I'd meet him back in the dorms. And when I found Vladdie, I saw Marty run past in the opposite direction, screaming. And...that's when I want back to the dorms."

"Okay, so you and Marty were taking a walk with your puppy and Logan was looking for you. Why were Kitty and George out?"

She bites her lip.

"And none of you left together? Not even you and Logan?"

Please do not let this be happening again.

"Kitty had been working on a project, and was taking a break," Rory explains. "And I think George was looking for someone. Or something. She was kind of vague. And...no, none of us left together."

Realization dawns on her face. "I hadn't thought of that. We all left separately. Logan and I were...oh, about five minutes apart, leaving. He was up in the common room watching karaoke by the time I got there."

"I don't know George."

She frowns.

"Rory, how long did it take you from the time you and Logan split up to get back to the dorms?"

Rory creases her brow. "Maybe...eight minutes? Total? It was about three tracking Vladdie down, and then I ran back to the dorms."

"So you guys were pretty near campus then," she says.

"And you saw Marty run out of the alley after you found Vladdie?"

Rory nods. "He was screaming and flailing and running further into town. It was kind of scary. And that's when I went back to the dorms."

Veronica closes her eyes. That really doesn't sound good for Marty.

"Okay, Rory, this is important. Are you sure you didn't see anyone else while you were in town. Before Marty heard the noise or while you and Vladdie were running back to the dorms?"

Rory bites her lip, thinking. "Nope. No one else." She shrugs. "I wish I had, though, because this looks bad for Marty, doesn't it?"

Veronica shrugs.

"Sort of. But, trust me, it isn't concrete."

She makes some notes.

"I guess I need to talk to George and see why she was there and what she knows."

Rory nods. "Do you want to talk to Logan? I mean...he was there too. Like, I know you have...history..." She looks decidedly uncomfortable.

Veronica chuckles.

"History... yeah..." she says, shaking her head. "Rory, I accused him of murder once. If I ask him questions about this..."

She buries her face in her hands, unable to speak further.

Rory's eyes go wide at the word 'murder,' but she doesn't remark on it.

She tentatively reaches a hand over and rubs Veronica's back.

"I don't think you probably need to ask him, Veronica," she says quietly. "He has a pretty airtight alibi. And a bunch of witnesses who saw him in the common room. So...I think that's one unpleasant scene you can avoid, anyway."

Veronica looks up, slightly surprised by Rory's compassion. She doesn't know if she could be so nice to her boyfriend's ex.

"Thanks. I think you're right about his alibi. And I think it would be better if I didn't talk to him about it."

She bites her lip.

"Would you do me a favor?"

Rory arches her brows and smiles slightly. "Depends on the favor. The answer's probably 'yes,' though. What is it?"

She smiles and tilts her head.

"Ask Logan if he remembers seeing anyone else that night?"

Rory's smile widens and she quirks a brow. "That I can easily do. And I'll get back to you with the info as soon as I get it."

"Thanks, Rory."

She gathers her belongings.

"I'll talk to you later."

"You sure you don't want to stay and watch? Vanessa Saturn is on. It's this show about a teenage private eye," Rory says, glancing at the TV. "Supposed to be pretty good, though I hear it's underrated."

Veronica smiles.

"Nah, I have work to do, but thanks."

Sounds like a boring show anyway. How much trouble could a teenage PI get into?
