Second floor common room, Monday night

Jaye is bored. Jaye has the remote control. And the rest of that Halloween candy she's not planning on finishing.

And ooh, November means sweeps...

Angela roams down to the common room, bookbag in tow. "Hi, Jaye. What's on?"

"Not quite sure," she answers, frowning at the TV like it's done something wrong. "I've missed half the season of everything, so I'm stopping on random pretty boys. Although Point Break is on AMC. Which makes me wonder when they let monkeys choose the movies they play on American Movie Classics."

Angela rolls her eyes. "God, I remember when that channel was, like, all Bette Davis, all black and white, all the time. Now it's just..." she shrugs "random old crap."

Her eyes flicker to the screen. "That guy is pretty."

[fates_jaye]

"Yeah, he is. We could use one of him here."

She stares, then goes back to flipping channels when they go to commercial. "Was Sunday's hangover bad?"

Angela shrugs. "Not as bad as I probably deserved. But we pretty much slept until noon, so I might have just slept through it. How about you?"

"Stayed up until two drinking water until I felt better, and I woke up fine," Jaye says. "It's probably only because I really stopped when the bony guy started asking me for drinking advice."

"Which boney guy? You mean DEATH? I've never actually seen him."

[fates_jaye]

"Wait, Death? Like... Death Death? I thought that whole homecoming queen thing was just a joke," she says. If it was Death Death, she's going to be a little weirded out.

"I can't see him, but I've heard he's DEATH death. He has a horse and everything." Angela's eyes go a little dreamy. "I got to babysit the horse for him once. And he's in my poetry class and seems pretty nice. Weird, but nice."

Jaye grins. "You babysat a horse? Did you get paid?"

"Nah. It was mostly just hanging out watching him eat oats," Angela admits. "And ... I kind of appointed myself to do it. I just like animals, and I didn't want to leave him alone. It was too weird to have a horse in the common room, you know?"

[fates_jaye]

"The... common room? Okay, it's a new week, so I can say it again: we go to a weird school."

[chasingangela]

"Got that one right," Angela says, turning her eyes back to the Mexican soap opera drifting across the screen. She doesn't speak Spanish, but the actor knows the international language of Cute Guy Without a Shirt.

Eventually Cute Guy Without a Shirt goes away, and Angela's attention returns.

"And, actually -- wait, you can see DEATH? I didn't know anyone could."

"Why wouldn't anyone be able to see him?" Jaye asks.

[chasingangela]

"I dunno. I just know that I can't. I've heard he's, like, a skeleton." She frowns. "Which I guess means some other people can see him, just not me."

[fates_jaye]

"Well... I was a little drunk. A lot drunk," she clarifies. "Maybe that's what did it." She pauses. "I thought he looked a little skinny."

Angela grins. "Did you tell him to eat?"

[fates_jaye]

She winces. "I taught him how to do a shot. Then he did a couple more. And then he said he loved me and stumbled off." She tries really hard not to laugh.

Angela snorts. "You got DEATH drunk? That ... only at this school, man. But it sounds fun."

[fates_jaye]

"It was weird," Jaye giggles. "I thought I was going to have to check myself into the clinic. Or therapy."

[chasingangela]

"I think you just have to go with stuff like that," Angela says. "Though ... have you heard anything about therapy around here?"

[fates_jaye]

"I think there's some kid here who does office hours or something? And I got a recommendation for someone in town." She pauses. "And then there's the Abnormal Psych teacher."

[chasingangela]

Angela wrinkles her nose. "Thanks. I think I'll stick to writing in my journal."

[fates_jaye]

"I could never do that," she says, putting her feet up on the table. "About me, anyway. Talk about other people, sure."

[chasingangela]

"I'm completely endlessly fascinated by myself," Angela says. "Plus, I've kept one for a really long time, so it's just habit. But half of it is boring gossip anyhow."

[fates_jaye]

"Gossip is never boring," Jaye says, then rethinks that. "Except when it is. Here, I don't think it can be."

[chasingangela]

"True." Angela thinks. "Have you heard anything good lately? The best thing I saw was Maia Rutledge freaking out in ethics class, and -- huge surprise there, plus it really sucked for Shane McCutchen and Ms. Maclay."

[fates_jaye]

She groans."Don't tell me I missed a spaz attack! I'm signing up for that next semester, I mean it. Damn. The best stuff I hear is all the stuff on the radio."

[chasingangela]

"You should take ethics. I mean, it makes me think and it's a good class that way, but some of the fun is definitely watching other people in it, you know? Though I'm not crazy about Angelus being a TA. I just don't like the way he looks at me."

[fates_jaye]

"Yeah, I just heard about what happened with the whole slave assignment, and that just had to be fun to watch."

"Angelus... That's the vampire guy, right? I've never met him."

[chasingangela]

"Yeah. I got out of the slave assignment because my partner kind of disappeared.

But I think the Friday class has more drama queens than my class does."

"Angelus is the vampire, yeah. Tall, dark hair, very nice if you have something he wants. Not especially ... trustworthy."

[fates_jaye]

"I'll have to stalk the members of the Friday class and make sure I end up with them next time," she says seriously. "Until I bang my head against the desk too hard and end up in the clinic, anyway." She grins.

"Well, when I hear 'vampire', I don't especially think 'trustworthy'..."

[chasingangela]

Angela snorts. "Yeah, well ... tell that to Rory Gilmore. She thinks he's the bestest person ever or something."

She sighs. "Maybe I'm not being fair. I had a bad experience and read some stuff about him, and ... I have a hard time believing in a second chance there."

[fates_jaye]

"She's not, like, assuming he's gonna be all cute like the puppy, is she? And if you had a bad experience, you're totally allowed to be not fair."

[chasingangela]

"Apparently he's been nothing but sweet to her, so she thinks I'm not giving him a chance. Or something. I've kind of had all the arguments over Angelus that I want to have."

[fates_jaye]

"Well, until he buys me something pretty, I'm not going to argue," Jaye assures her. "Though if do I get something pretty..."

[chasingangela]

"You're loyal until he gives you something shiny? That's ... interesting," Angela teases. She lowers her voice. "I think Ms. Maclay got some lingerie or something from his vacation."

[fates_jaye]

"Not shiny. Expensive," she says. "Lingerie? Seriously?"

[chasingangela]

"Looked like it from my seat. Or, at least, it was lacy and she blushed when she opened the box," Angela says. "It would be creepy, but she seemed to like it."

[fates_jaye]

Jaye makes a face. "It's still a student giving a teacher something lacy and blush-inducing. I think creepy's a good word for it."

"I'm not disagreeing," Angela says simply. "Like, at all."

[fates_jaye]

Jaye shudders.

She catches a look at the time. "Gah. I need to head to bed. One day I'm going to video conference to my classes from my room."

"Bed will be good," Angela says. "See you later."

[fates_jaye]

Jaye hands over the remote before getting up. "Night."
