Dear Maia,

By now, I'm sure Grissom has contacted you, informing you that he and I will be going out to dinner.

Please believe me when I say it was not intended or expected. You were never a substitute for him, or for anyone else. I don't know that he and I will work out or stay together but...we're going to try.

I never wanted to hurt you, Maia, but hurting you is all that I seem to do. I am sorry. And for what it is worth, I did and still care about you, regardless of everything that has happened.
