Saturday Night - in the woods

It had been a busy day. First, he'd found Tex bruised and battered in town and helped her out. Then there was the festival. And now? Well, now Kawalsky and Bridge and anyone else who decides to join in were out in the woods behind the school. Technically they should have been inside, nice and comfortable in their dorms. Instead they were out trudging around in the woods because Bridge had seen a giraffe.

Yes, a giraffe. Or so he said.

Kawalsky really had nothing better to do, so here they were, out in the woods on the trail of a mysterious giraffe.

"What are we gonna do if we *catch* this giraffe? I don't even know what giraffes eat."


[OOC: What? We're giraffe hunting. Come play if you're bored and would actually, y'know, be likely to be out there with the boys.]

"Teach it to play the piano?" Bridge shrugged. "And they eat bread sandwiches. That's what it says in The Book," he says, capitalising those last two words.

Wandering back to the dorms after the Festival, Callisto spies two familar figures.

"Kawalsky? Bridge?"

"Callisto!" Bridge calls out cheerily. "You any good at tracking?"

"Yeah, I can track." Callisto grins. "What are you tracking?"

"A giraffe." Bridge says solemnly.

"Shhhh!" Kawalsky put a finger to his lips and beckoned her over.

*Coming back from the festival a little ways behind Callisto, Hamlet arrives a few seconds later.*

What are you doing out here?

"Hey, Hamlet." Calisto nods. "Tracking something apparently."

Kawalsky nodded. "A giraffe. It's out here somewhere."

A giraffe in this part of the world. You'd have better luck finding one on Neptune.

Somethings runs past in the trees about twenty yards away.

Kawalsky spun around. "Did you hear that?"

Callisto immediately turns to track the movement. "You guys saw that, right?"

Suddenly, the creature is running right toward the group. At first, all they can see is the head coming at them. It certainly looks like a giraffe... except for the fact that it is only about seven feet tall.

"The frell?" Not wishing to become roadkill, Callisto dodges to the side.

*Hamlet dodges to the side as the animal runs by.*

If Bridge were the type to get emo, he'd be doing it right about now.

"Miniature giraffe. Told you so."

Kawalsky scurried out of the way, then did what was possibly the most stupid thing on Earth and lunged at the miniature giraffe.

"Kawalsky! That's possibly the most stupid thing on Earth!" Callisto yells as she turns around and runs to help.

Bridge does not feel the least bit vindicated in the fact that for once, he's not doing what was possibly the most stupid thing on Earth.

As the creature runs by they can see that it is, in fact, a miniature giraffe. It is even perfectly to scale for an adult - obviously not just a baby.

It is relatively easy for Kawalsky and Callisto to catch it. It thrashes it's head about a bit, but calms down pretty quickly. Maybe it has had contact with humans before. There was no way to tell for sure.

Kawalsky kept a firm hold on the giraffe with one hand and stroked its neck with the other hand. "Shhhh," he said, patting it. "It's okay."

Seeing as though it was too late to go barging in on the music teacher, and none of them knew where he lived anyway, Kawalsky, Bridge, Callisto, Hamlet and Earl headed back to the dorms. Somehow, they managed to get Earl to the 6th floor unnoticed. He wouldn't stay there for good, but for tonight it would have to do.

Tomorrow, they would find Earl a new home.
