In the Quad: Friday night.
After work, Duce bundled herself into an excessive amount of winter gear and headed back to the school grounds. She wasn't ready to call it a night yet, yet she had nothing specific to do. Knowing that Red would worry his fur off if he thought she was wandering around town after dark, even with the police on patrol, she'd decided to keep her wanderings up around the school.
Wandering into the Quad, she began idly scraping together fallen leaves and piling them on top of the cut-back rosebushes. She wasn't sure why the groundskeepers hadn't insulated them better, because some things like 'It's Virginia, it doesn't get that cold here' didn't really occur to her.
The leaves were wet, which made her glad she was wearing gloves. The putzing around made her happy. She almost missed her cell, because she was in a good enough mood that she might've called someone to come join her if she'd had it on her. Sadly, it was still in pieces on her floor.

Stepping out into the quad, she was surprised to see someone already out there. "Oh! Hullo Duce," she called, waving.

Standing, grimaced as her knees popped. "Oy. It's cold and icky tonight."

"It is 'cold and icky' for sure. Here," she says, pulling a glass jar out of the pocket of her coat. Using her wand she conjured a bluebell flame inside the jar and held it out for Duce to feel its warmth.

Duce's head jerks as if she's just blinked hard, as the jar with flame appears. She grins, "Dude! Blue fire! Coolness!" She holds her hands out to the jar and then adds, "Or, un-coolness, as the case happens to be!"

She smiles as she places the jar on the ground between them. "Aside from being
teh shinyda bombshowy, magic can be useful on occasion."no subject
She looks down at the
gobletjar of fire with a pleased smile, holding her hands over it. "Also? Blue!" For some reason, that amuses her far, far too much.no subject
She giggles at Duce's excitement over the flame. "What are you out here for, anyway?"

Shrugging a shoulder, she mehs, "Didn't want to worry Red by trolling for bad guys in town, but wasn't ready to go home and crawl in bed yet, so thought I'd kick around the school grounds and see if there was anything to do. Looks like most people chose to stay inside. I saw the roses and .. well.. nobody'd covered them up for the winter yet, so I kinda did."
She gestures at the small mounds of leaves where the bushes used to be. It's a rather futile gesture - they're not held down with tarps or anything so the wind is likely to just blow them all away again.

Lily looks around at the mounds of leaves, waves her wand and mutters an incantation to keep the leaves firmly in place. "That should do it," she says to herself before turning back to Duce. "I haven't done much since I've been here, magic-wise. It's past time for me to be practicing and trying to move ahead and learn what I'm not getting from classes here."

She watches as Lily does.. something.. to the leaves, and they don't blow away. Duce looks pleased at this. "Yay! Now the bushes won't freeze!"
Duce explains her overabundance of excitement, "Due to what I am.. I'm kind of immune to it. Magic, I mean. The goddess who cursed me didn't want any mortal sorceror coming along and zapping me back to normal. Since most of the magic I've encountered was .. y'know.. people throwing spells at me.. I've never seen much of it work."

Lily listens to Duce's explanation with interest. "That's such an... odd story. I don't mean to offend or anything, it's just... yeah." She smiles. "Well, you're welcome to watch any time - I'm trying to schedule myself for regular practice sessions, to get disciplined and get working. My roommates and I are in the only occupied room on the fifth floor, so I should be able to practice up there without bothering anyone."
