Kiki is curled up on the couch, Jiji snoring beside her, with a notebook. She seems to be working on an essay, or maybe a poem, or both, but in reality she's more focused on the show on TV, The Adventures of Dixon Hill (Tonight's 2-hour special: Murder on the Occident Express).

"It's ok," Kiki waves a hand at Dix and his fedora. She can't help but smile a little at John's reaction. "I don't know about horns, but the wings - at least Mr. Crowley's - are real."

She sobers quickly. "As for others who can help? Mr. Aziraphale will surely do everything he can to help. It's not exactly Mr. Crowley's line of work to do the same," Kiki muses. "Who else have you talked to? Harry is a wizard, but he's got so many classes he can be difficult to get ahold of, I know...Lily Evans and her boyfriend Draco Malfoy. She seems nice enough, but I doubt you can expect any help from him. Paige, maybe, or Phoebe?" Kiki suggests.

"Hrm. I'll have to check them out. I think Draco's in the JA with me... which, come to think of it, I haven't been going lately."

"Well," Kiki says diplomatically, "Maybe Draco and I just don't mix well."

"I don't think Draco and anyone mix particularly well. He's just not good kitchen stock, y'know? I'd like to see a Metal Cook episode with Draco as the secret ingredient. Well," John said, sheepishly, "not like cannabalism, but you know."

Kiki bursts out laughing. "That's a good way of putting it!" She shakes her head. "Poor Draco."

"I'm sure he's good at what he does, but I'm just not sure what that is. Wait. He's a wizard or something, right? I should ask him, see what he knows about this. And it's not like I can just waltz into Hades and check the death records or something."

"Wellll... if it's to cultivate an air of professional snarkitude, then he is extremely good at it," Kiki says. "And yes, he's a wizard. He and Harry were actually at the same school together before coming here. I'm pretty sure Harry knows just about nothing about this sort of thing - at least not from any classes, so I'd think Draco would be the same. But this sort of magic is rather more in Draco's line, I'd guess, so he might know something."

"Having a seance isn't so much waltzing into Hades and looking up a name in a file cabinet," Kiki confirms John's assessment, "it's rather more like calling out a phantom librarian to have them go in and find out for you."

"Hrm. I never thought about it like that. And it's not like they have computers, but like the olde schoole card catalogue. Man. I wish I could just ask Death or something."

"And yeah. I wonder if Draco's snark is genetic or something?"

"Yeah, and these librarians? You definitely don't want to get caught being noisy, or putting something back in the wrong place," Kiki warns. "That's a good point - why wasn't Death able to answer your question?"

"Wait. Death?" John is confused.

"Sure, the student? Likes to dress in frilly things and condoms?" Kiki expands. "Oh wait - I think you need to have certain traits in order to see him - magical sight or something. And he's a teenager still, so he might not be in all the full know of everything going on in the afterlife, come to think of it," Kiki adds.

"Wait a second. Wait a freakin' second. There's an Anth-Morpork anthropomorphic Death?! As a STUDENT!? What. The. Hell??" John wonders where teh hell he's been (and why he hadn't been paying attention in Shop class)

"Yeah, really. I think he took Professor Beeblebrox's fashion class," Kiki adds. "Or maybe he just dresses that way all the time."

"Wow. And I never knew. Crap. I didn't even know that was an option."

He looked down at the book in her hand. "So do you want to go through with this, then? I mean, what all's involved?"

"I'm not entirely sure, but I can look into it. I'd really like to help you, John, because I think it's absolutely ridiculous that people disappear around this place all the time and nobody even cares. And also we already started playing the seance, heeh!" Kiki looks determined, and a little upset. "I'll try to see if Mr. Aziraphale will let us work this in his shop. It's less... disrupted than the dorms."

"Okay. That sounds like a good idea since we're all starting and stuff. And I don't think that dorming it would be safe. Too distracting."

"Right," Kiki agrees. She looks back at the television, and even the dashing Dixon Hill is looking a little flat.

"Whenever you are ready to come by is fine," she adds. "But after noon would probably be best, since it will give me time to prepare."

"Okay. I'll drop in after that." He asks for directions and such.

"I need a dashing hat like that."

[Facing the park, on whatever Street, and get there going thataway.]

Kiki gives John an encouraging smile. "I think every guy needs a fedora," she says.

"Yeah, they're so dashing. Like that Michigan Smith dude, in the movies."

"Oh yeah!" Kiki agrees. "And it's great that he never loses it, even when he falls over a cliff or off a bridge. Every good hero never loses their hat."

"It's like it's stapled to his head. I wonder if they get some sort of hero surgery, get snaps or something in their heads that match the snaps on the hats? Or... head/hat magnets?"

"I always figured it was an eleastic cord tied to their collar," Kiki answers. "But you know what they say: Movies is magic!"

"I know. They're so unrealistic, though. I mean, there's no way that some of those things could actually happen."

"But that's what makes them so great," Kiki grins. "And it's funny you should say that in regards to thie school, where anything can happen, and usually does."

"Yeah. This place is just too wierd sometimes, y'know?"

"You're right on that. But you know, I'm really liking it here. Sure, there's monsters, and then there's students who are worse than the monsters, and on top of all that there's Bristow, but... weird as it is, I'm enjoying it."

"YEah, it feels like home, oddly. Of course, I'm used to a home with more firepower. Eh, not a normal home life, y'know?"

"Normal," Kiki observes, "is kind of relative. Especially here." She watches the credits for Dixon Hill scroll past the screen, and suddenly feels the weight of what she was to attempt tomorrow cutting through the comforting distraction of their inane chatter.

"I," she says softly, "I should go." She closes her notebook and stands up. "I'm going to need some sleep to be ready for tomorrow," she swallows. Crossing the room, she pauses at the door. "I'll do my best, John, but... I can't make any promises, ok? Except that - I'll really try." She gives him a smile and a small nod of encouragement. "I'll see you tomorrow. Good night."

"Hey, I'm suprised you even want to try. I know it's sudden and all. Um. Thanks."

John watches about an hour more of the tube and leaves.
