Gym, sunday morning

Cameron is at the gym again this morning, trying to beat up the punching bag. He seems to be doing rather well.

Since she already put herself in the gym before going up to the common room Aeryn stops in, watching for a minute before saying, "You're getting better."

Cameron startles and kicks lj for not sending notifications again and stops for a moment as he looks at Aeryn. "You think?"

"There's definitely improvement," she tells him. "Is the bag representative of anyone today?"

Cameron tilts his head as he considers the bag. "There about 80% chance that it is."

"Only 80? Harkness again?"

"I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt?" He goes back to hitting the bag and finally answers, but doesn't say too much as he isn't sure how Aeryn is feeling about Lee right now. "No, not Harkness."

If it's not Harkness, Aeryn's really not sure who it could be. "Do I get a hint?"

Cameron catches the punching bag with both his gloved hands and stops it from swinging. "There's two people I know of who it could be. Taking a wild guess, I'm pretty sure it isn't Kawalsky so that leaves Lee." He gives Aeryn an apologetic look.

Apparently Lee's had a banner week. "I'm missing something. What happened?" she asks.

He's about to explain when he remembers that Aeryn is probably as thrown about this christmas and santa thing as Vala is. "Did anyone explain you the secret santa thing?"

"Uh, I know Sandy is the man who delivers toys to children but it's actually a total lie, and you actually buy them for each other," Aeryn says. "There's more to it?"

"Nah, that's the gist of it." He smiles a bit at how she calls him. "There's a thing going around uni where you sign up and then you get assigned one person you get to buy gifts for but it's supposed to be a secret. Which is why they call it 'secret santa'. Vala signed up for it. She got flowers earlier this week and then yesterday she got this fancy necklace," he grimaces.

Aha. "Lee got it for her?"

"Yeah, there was this hint about Hathor and getting to know her closely. Which narrows it down to him and Kawalsky and there's no fucking way Kawalsky would buy anything relating to that... thing," he punches the bag angrily.

"It's just... You don't buy jewelry for someone else's girlfriend, man. It's not cool, but Vala seems to love it and..." He sighs as he realises he's rambling. "I'm being an idiot about this."

"I can see why," she admits, and pauses. She's not usually in the habit of defending people, especially ones that kiss her boyfriend, but she continues, "I doubt he meant anything by it, though. After what happened this week?"

"I know, which is why I'm giving him 20% chance to not be the bag," he sighs and looks at Aeryn. "How are you doing?"

She flashes a quick smile at that first part before shrugging. "I'm all right. We're working it out."

"That's good," he studies her for a moment. "Right?"

"It is. We'll figure things out," she says, and can actually believe it.

Cameron smiles and nods. "That's good. You shouldn't fight during the holidays." Even if it's a bit ironic coming from Cameron right now.

"I guess not," Aeryn says. Though after Thanksgiving, she's beginning to think she and John have to fight during the holidays. "As long as you take your own advice."

"Uh," he grimaces. "I'm kinda avoiding fighting with Vala and the only way to get out of that fight is by fighting with my mom. I'm not sure which is better."

She raises her eyebrows. "You're fighting with your mother so you don't fight with Vala," she repeats. "Why do you need to fight with anyone? Did I really just say that?"

"You did," Cameron smirks for a moment, then shakes his head. "Vala doesn't want to go back home with me because of what happened to Harkness. My mom will probably blow a fuse when I change plans now, I haven't seen her since september."

"And going back by yourself isn't an option," she says, not even bothering to phrase it as a question. "I think I hate this holiday."

"Don't, it's one of our best holidays." Cameron says quickly. "You and John will have a great time."

Aeryn frowns. "I don't know if he's going to want to stay. He probably will, because he's been insistent on it if this is going to be my only Chrissmass, but I don't know."

"It's your only one?" Cameron blurts out and adds firmly, "he'll stay."

"I don't know if it's my only one," she clarifies. "But I don't know when I'll be called back, and until then, I get to be the reason John doesn't see his family."

"Have you considered going with him?" Cameron asks. "I know you didn't exactly get on with his father, but the rest of his family might not be that bad."

"I've considered it," Aeryn admits. "I can't control whether John stays or leaves. But given his father's reaction to me... It might be seen as disrespectful. I don't want to make more problems. And with things being the way they are right now, offering to go would be..." She shakes her head.

"Okay," Cameron thinks about it for a moment. "Ignore his father. By the sound of it, he'll find it disrespectful if you don't get either.

"Just see what he wants to do? Christmas is an important day for a family. If he wants to go home, that's normal. I'm sure he misses his family too, but they'll still be here next year. So it's really only natural that he'd want to stick around to be with you."

"You're probably right," Aeryn says, though things between her and John are really awkward right now. "This is just so much hassle over something I don't even celebrate. And only understand half of."

"I'm not surprised. I heard the stories Vala came back home with after she went christmas shopping with you guys. I have no clue what the hell Angel and John have been telling you," he shakes his head but grins.

"Rory interviewed me for the paper on this," she says. "I give her credit for not laughing. And after hearing about fairies and dancing rats I know not to trust anything Angel tells me on this subject. I think he still may be a little evil."

"Or he just thinks it's fun to confuse you. It's kinda cute watching Vala struggle to take it all in," he snickers. "Not that I've been lying to her. God knows, I don't want her to start talking about toasters and gay santas to my grandmother," he abruptly stops talking. "Not that she'll be going with me, so that's moot."

"Well, there's still a week, right?" she says. "A lot can happen in a week."

"Especially around here," Cameron agrees and realises that his work out has turned into a standing around. "Wanna spar?"

She raises an eyebrow. "Are you sure about that?"

"Uh..." He looks down at his gloves and shrugs. "No?"

"I'm up for it if you are even if it would have to be short due to time constraints," she says.

"Alright," Cameron pulls away from the punching bag. "Just err... tell me what to do."

"Put your hands up to block," Aeryn says, demonstrating. "Make sure you've got one hand up the whole time, and then try to hit me."

"Okay..." He's done this before with John and Jack, but those two weren't exactly capable of putting up a decent fight. Which sorta evened out the odds, really. Doing as she tells him, he keeps up his hands and starts hopping around a bit like the boxers do in the movies. Not knowing anything better to do, he tries to hit her like he'd be hitting the punching bag.

It's not too hard to block the punch, but she nods. "Good," she says. Not sure how much experience he actually has with this, Aeryn brings her own fist up relatively slowly, giving him time to see it coming.

It's not to hard to block as she is going slow. He does waste some time wondering if she's going easy on him, realises that he'd be on his ass already if she weren't and only then tries to get a hit in the opening her own punch has left.

It's nothing Aeryn can't block, but he knows how to use an opening. "See, all these people irritating you pays off," she says, and grins. "You might actually hit me."
