The Gym, Friday morning

Yesterday she was in the common room and at a party. There. Good enough. That was social.

After signing up for classes, Aeryn heads to the gym, which is much more familiar than large crowds of people she won't actually approach unless she knows them. There's no one there yet, so she pulls on her gloves, heads straight to the punching bag, and takes advantage of the fact that there isn't a line for it yet.

And there may or may not have been another vacuum accident. Yeah...

"You could always ask?" Cameron manages to block the punch and actually holding on to her arm, he quickly moves closer and makes a swipe for her legs.

He gets kicked not-too-hard for the effort. "Very nice try," she says appreciatively, and shrugs. "I could."

Cameron pulls back and bounces in place for a moment. "My mom always says that you've got a no and you can get a yes."

Aeryn raises an eyebrow. "She does, does she?"

"My momma's a smart woman," Cameron says, his grin faltering just slightly for a moment. "Most of the time anyway," he shrugs and moves back in again to aim a short burst of punches at Aeryn's hands.

His knuckle catches her at a strange angle due to the position of her hands, and she shakes it out a bit as she goes for his side with her right. "I'm under the impression all parents have their not-so-smart moments."

"I suppose they do," Cameron gritted his teeth as she connected with the bruise. "I'm oldest kid too so I'm the one they try their mistakes on first," he replied as he went for her left shoulder.

Aeryn rolls her shoulder after the hit, stepping forward to bring her knee against his hip. "What, you're practice?" she asks, not familiar with the concept.

And boy is he grateful she didn't aim more to the left. He still jumps sideways to make sure in case and turns enough so he's in a position to reach her back. He seems to hold, though, and the hit is very much more of a tag than anything else.

"Yeah, parents makes mistakes too. So the oldest child gets to deal with the most mistakes. They'll have more experience when dealing with Emily."

"Good for her," Aeryn says, backing away and turning to face him. "This is why I don't think I miss out on parents."

"There's a lot of good abou them too," Cameron replies and shrugs, that whole topic is still a bit uncomfortable and while he's got some questions he doesn't want to go back to that particular awarkedness.

"People seem pretty content just to complain about them, though," she says, and strikes for the left side of his jaw.

"Like you sometimes feel like complaining about John," Cameron replies as he blocks, ducks and kicks at her hip with his right leg this time. He manages to not fall over.

He doesn't hit her hard, but he does hit her. "That's different," Aeryn says, and goes for a low blow to his stomach.

"Not entirely," Cameron can't block the punch completely and moves back. He feigns a shot to her left shoulder and hits at her right side.

Aeryn takes the hit, but at the same time puts her elbow toward his chin. "I'm with John because I choose to be, though."

And that hurts as he staggers back and takes a moment to recover. "Maybe so, but in the end you can walk away from your family if you want. You just have to put up with them long enough."

"When's long enough?" she frowns.

"Until you're old enough to be able to live on your own," Cameron replies simply.

"So... what's this, then? Isn't that what you're doing now?"

"Not exactly," Cameron shakes his head. "My parents are still paying for this. Generally it's when you stop studying or at least when you move out and have a job to support yourself."

Aeryn shakes her head. Culture shock again. "Do you worry about that?"

Cameron wipes some of the sweat from hs brows and shrugs. "It can be a bit scary to think about changes like that. They're big steps you take in life, but I know what I want so that makes it a whole lot easier."

"I suppose it does."

She drops her guard, since they're not really fighting anymore anyway. "Mind if we end it here for today?"

"What? With both of us still standing and very much alive?" Cameron grins slightly.
