Gym, 5:00 PM FHT

After an exciting adventure of ~~making more Eddie Izzard refrences than previously thought humanly possible~~ taping a golf cart to a ceiling, Pip needed to expend a little nervous energy.

And he had promised he would teach Paige self defense.

While waiting for her, he slipped on a pair of white gloves and started doing some shadow boxing, his braid wrapped around his neck like a scarf.

"That's important, yes," Pip says. He leaps to his feet. "But I'm looking for something else. Watch again."

He falls backwards and slaps the ground at his side with his hands at the instant of impact.

"See it that time?"

She chews her lip and she tries to work it out, "you broke your fall with your hands?"

Pip points up at her. "Bingo! I broke the fall with my hands. This move is in almost every martial art. It's called a breakfall, and it's very important. That's why it's pretty much everything. You loosen the muscles of the rest of your body and break the fall with your hands. Hit at the moment of impact." He leaps up. "Care to try it yourself?"

Paige nods slowly and goes over to the mat, she takes a couple of deep breaths and lets herself fall, unfortunately her fear instinct kicks in and she involuntarily orbs out and ends up back where she started from.

She looks at Pip and blushes 'oppsey."

Then she tries again this time paying attention to not orbing then anything else, in the split second she's aware she's falling she readies herself and relaxes moving her hands slightly behind her and landing with a slap much as Pip had done.

((and I must flee to bed :( either finish off tomorrow or end after your next reply?))

Pip nods. "Interesting trick. Theoretically, since you can do that, you don't need to breakfall. But sometimes it pays to fall. Maybe get down away from the fire. Good job, though. Excellent first attempt."

He glances down at his watch. "How you feeling? Do you want to continue, or shall we reschedule?"

Paige blushes, "It's not really meant to happen like that, I should be able to control it more, so in a fight I'd probably not have time to decide to orb." she explains.

"I'm feeling okay, if there's something else you think I need to know, that'd be cool."

Pip nods. "Well, there is one thing I want to check first, see it's easy being able to do a breakfall under you're own power, but," he said as he suddenly rushed forward, displaying suprising speed. He hooked his leg around behind Paige and shoved.

Paige eyes went wide and she yelled out as she fell, she did however remember to relax and let her hands break her fall.

She looked up at him from the mat, "I really should've known that was coming shouldn't I?"

Pip reached a hand out to help her up. "Well, if you had than there really wouldn't have been much of a point to me doing it, but yes. You probably should've guessed that I was going to do that. And you did quite well, by the way. I had to knock Cameron down by suprise two or three times before he got it."

Paige smiles as she pulls herself up with Pip's help, "I'm guessing Cam was better with the actual fighting stuff though right?"

She sighs, "There are vanquishing potions, it's just, well I don't think my sisters trust me much with magic and I can't really rely on aving the right one with me at the time,"

She was pretty sure she'd be dead in a few years, but if she could just last long enough to show a few demons not mess with the Charmed Ones she'd be happy, well happy-ish at least.

"Well, he was, yes. But he's been sparring with Aeryn. Who I think might be even better at hand-to-hand than me, but that's only going on rumor."

He nodded. "No, you really can't. From the sounds of it, magic is a weapon, just like any other weaopn. You need to have it, you neet to have it ready, and you need to have it loaded for it to be of any use. And you can never count on that being the case. It's why this stuff is so important."

Out of nowhere, Pip suddenly dashes forward and trips Paige up again.

This time Paige doesn't land quite so well, she relaxes but doesn have chance to break her fall with her hands. "Owww!"

She orbs back up and looks at him rubbing her back, "damn it Pip!"

Pip shrugs. "Just checking. Good on the relaxation, not so good on the breaking of the fall. You can't always count on being able to see what's coming. I'm gonna make you fast, if nothing else. Speed counts for most in a fight."

He scratched his nose. "I think we've done enough for today. You want to meet again some time?"

Paige nods, "Yeah I guess I shold count myself lucky I knew you were even here, I'm thinking I might not be able to count on that with the demons."

"Yeah I do if you're not too busy, I mean, I don't have any evening classes so whenever you're free I guess." she pauses, "but I did promise Geoff I'd be able to work in his shop at least one night a week."

Pip nods. "Well, I've got one or two evening classes. One is Music of the Multiverse and one is, funnily enough, Tactics of War. I'm also working with Cam and maybe one other person. Maybe it would be a good idea if we set up regulrly scheduled training sessions?"

"Yeah that might be a good idea, how'd Mondays and Thursdays suit you? That why I can spend time with Sawyer and do the stuff at the clinic and work for Geoff too,"

Well, I've got class on Monday seventh period, but we can just work before then. Thursday's a bit of a problem, though. I've got classes six and seventh periods. How about, say, Wednesday?"

"Sure Wednesday's fine, like I said I don't have any evening classes, so other than than work I'm pretty much free. So five on Mondays and Wednesday's then?"

"Sounds great," Pip says, lighting up a cigarette. "Come dressed in comfortable workout clothes. And leave the boots behind."

Paige laughed a little, "sure I probably have somethiung a bit more, appropriate, I'll see you again on Wednesday then and I really appreciate this Pip, thank you."
