First Floor Lobby, Evening

Kiki sits primly in a chair, wearing a bright orange badge. Her broom is next to her, and there's an orange construction paper sign on the table beside her that says:

"SafeWalk Program Volunteer!"

If you would prefer not to walk through the streets of Fandom by yourself, then come talk to Kiki. She might not be big or strong, but a flying broom is pretty handy for getting out of trouble quickly.

Lana comes down to the lobby. "Hi Kiki! I'm not here for a safewalk, but I thought I'd stop by and say hi. I'm living on the fourth floor now, so you should come visit sometime!"

"You moved? Fantastic!" Kiki says enthusiastically. "My door's usually open - 414. Which room are you?"

I'm in 403. It's nice. And with no roommates so I don't have to evacuate my room in the middle of the night when they have a screaming argument. Thanks again for letting me stay with you that night."

"You're welcome, anytime - well, of course, now, you won't need to. It's nice to be able to get space of your own and peace and quiet!" Kiki nods. "I told a couple of the new girls that if they ever have a problem with their roommate like you did, they're welcome to crash on the spare cot in my room."

"Oh, that's really nice of you!" Lana smiles at her.

"Actually, I'm here for another reason as well. For my Sociology of the Paranormal class I have to ask someone to tell me about an experience they had with the Paranormal. I thought you might be a good person to ask."

"The Paranormal?" Kiki repeats. "Okay - Does magic count? Oh, um - Lilly came into the store the other day, looking for books on being a ghost. She said she wanted to 'maximize her afterlife experience.' But she behaved completely normally, so that's not very exciting. Are you looking for anything specific?" Kiki bites her lip, thinking.

"Let's see..." Lana looks at her notes. "I need to interview someone from Fandom about a paranormal experience they have encountered. I must determine the who, what, where, and when, as well as ask them three additional questions. So... You saw Lilly, who is dead, but somehow not, at the bookstore buying books on ghosts to "maximize her afterlife experience", yesterday? I think that would count."

She looks at her notes again. "So now I have to ask you three additional questions. Um... Was there any way to tell that she was or had been dead from the way she behaved?"

Kiki, oddly enough, looks relieved, and shakes her head. "Other than her wanting to be better at being dead? No."

Lana raises an eyebrow, "Yeah, I guess that's odd enough. Um... do you happen to know how she died?"

"I'm afraid not," Kiki shakes her head again. "Honestly, now that I think of it, I didn't even know she was dead until she came in talking about it. I guess it says something about this town that it didn't surprise me or faze me in the least!"

"Yeah, totally. I mean, I've met her before and I had no idea she was dead. Okay, uh, let's see. Have you ever met anyone else before who was dead - or a ghost?"

Kiki is silent a moment, as if weighing her answer. Finally, in a very quiet voice, she answers, "Yes."

Lana's eyes widen at how serious Kiki looks. "Wow. Hey, I would love to know what happened, but I completely understand if you don't want to say anything."

"It wasn't..." Kiki pauses again. "It wasn't pleasant."

She's quiet a moment, and then says almost to herself, "Perhaps talking about it might help a little -" She takes a steadying breath. "It was only a few weeks ago, just before Christmas, actually. You know that Principal Connor went missing? John asked me to attempt a seance to see if we could determine whether his mother was even still alive. I wanted to help so... I did it. I had no business doing it - I'm not trained, I've never participated in one, and only ever witnessed one once. But I did it anyway." Kiki gives a rueful smirk. "Part of that whole 'fine line between bravery and stupidity.'"

Lana's eyes are still very wide. "You... "did" a seance? Like you called up the spirits of dead people?" She stops herself. "Oh no, poor John! Did you reach his mother? She's dead?"

"No, it didn't work. We didn't find out anything. I mean, we - that is I contacted a spirit, but we weren't able to determine if Principal Connor were dead or alive."

"I think I would have been scared to death. How did you ever dare to do it?"

"I think that not knowing exactly what I was getting into probably helped," Kiki answers. Somewhat to her surprise, she is finding it gradually easier to talk about it. "And having Mr. Aziraphale nearby, in case anything went wrong."

"I really don't know Mr. Aziraphale. I met him when we went caroling, but that's really it. But he seems like a safe, calming presence. Is he trained in seances or something? Is that why he was there to help?"

"Not exactly. Mr. Aziraphale is... extremely powerful, because he's actually - an angel. No halo, no harp, but definitely wings."

"Beautiful wings," Kiki adds quietly.

Lana looks stunned. "An angel? Like a real, from up in heaven angel?" She doesn't know what to say. "And with wings..."

Her voice trails off and she thinks about it all for a minute. "Wow... You know. That makes sense to me. It probably shouldn't, but it does."

Kiki nods, and gives a small smile. "That's why his shop always feels so safe - because it really is."

"That's really amazing. Boy, you've sure given me a lot to think about, Kiki. Thanks. Oh, and I can leave your name out of my report for Soc. if you want." Lana clearly doesn't want Kiki to feel uncomfortable about having shared all of this with her.

"Thanks," Kiki smiles. She didn't mind Lana knowing, but for people she didn't know to read about it? She wasn't sure she was ready for it to be exactly that public. "I really appreciate that."

She smiles. "Thanks for listening - I appreciate that, too. Good luck with your project."

"Thanks, and no problem. And I'm glad to listen anytime." She smiled at Kiki. "I'd better get going, but hey, please do stop by and see me sometime, okay?"

"I will," Kiki promises. "And thanks for keeping me company! Looks like no one needed a safewalk tonight.

"Have a good night, Lana!"

"Thanks! You too!" Lana waves and heads back up towards her new room.
