Second floor common room, midday Sunday

Quinn is not going to stay on a floor that been blowed up and looks like it's been blowed up. Therefore, we're repainting.

The Muppet chickens have set to work on cleaning the walls because I like godmodding chickens, and Quinn's wearing her cutest old clothes. There are several gallons of primer set out, and since the furniture's ruined, why bother with a dropcloth? There are several paintbrushes and rollers that were found, and everything's set up. The paint will have to wait until the primer's up. Because, explodey.

"I didn't catch anything wrong with the directions, either." Alphonse paused to think about it for a moment. "It's really too bad no one around here is all that familiar with alchemy... Then maybe we could've gotten input on this matter rather than screwing it up."

"We've done more complicated transmutations before, though," Edward said with a frown. "This doesn't make any sense to me, at all. I need to double-check my notes."

"Well, we were trying to create something that is supposed to be a myth," Alphonse reminded. "I doubt something like the Philosopher's Stone would be that easy to make."

His brush strokes became slower. "I just wish I remembered how..."

"No, you don't." Edward shook his head sharply. "You don't need to know that, and you don't need to remember it. Don't try. There are alternate paths, there have to be." He glared at the wall in front of him. "The exchange involved in that creation of the Stone is hardly equivalent."

"But if I remembered how, then you'd be able to get the stone for sure!" Alphonse looked away from Edward with a guilty look. "There is a way, there has to be. Otherwise I wouldn't be here. So that means you were able to do it, Brother, and if I only remembered that way, then you could get it!"

Edward stared at Alphonse for a long moment, unsettled. He hadn't really thought on how Alphonse was here... what had he done to bring it about? Would he really go that far, to bring his little brother back? Even if it involved ...?

He swallowed, staring down at the paint can, and then covered his expression with a smirk. "Naw, don't worry about it, Al. We'll find something here, and it might even be easier anyway!"

Alphonse peered back up at his brother, going back to finishing the paint job.

"Yeah." he simply replied. "But I'm helping you. All the protesting in the world won't change my mind." Alphonse smirked back at Edward. "So we may as well finish this up and pray that whatever punishment we get for this isn't too terrible."
