The Far Stairwell Between the First and Second Floors, Early Saturday Evening

Luckily for Archie, he's slept through most of today, and has really had no occasion to talk to anyone. So he has no idea that people are spontaneously and unnervingly breaking into song.

He's ensconced himself halfway up the first floor stairwell furthest from the lobby, hoping to find some peace and quiet while he does his reading for Western Civ . . .

Archie? Is actually scared of Cally. As he should be. He opens his mouth, snaps it shut again before anything comes out of it, and then, much to his consternation opens it again. To the accompaniment of an odd reverb guitar.

Honestly, he'd be appalled that he knows these words.

Cally blinks a few times. She responds with words that are again, very much not hers.

Archie nods slowly and, well, yes -- he doesn't know where the hell this song is coming from either.

He blinks. "You know, Cally, I --"

"Long walk to where?" Cally scratches her head. "I'm not singing! Yay!"

"I think it was a metaphor," says Archie uncertainly, now too thoroughly weirded out to be very annoyed with Cally. "Or some fancy figure of speech or other. Blasted songs I don't even know."

"Me neither." Cally frowns a bit. "We're cool, right? No hard feelings?"

"Between you and I?" Archie shakes his head. "No, I suppose not. I'm afraid I can't say the same for Samuel, though. If you can live with that."

Cally frowns again. "I don't get it. Why do you two hate each other so much, anyways?"

"I don't know," admits Archie. "I honestly don't know. Perhaps we're just not meant to exist in the same place at the same time. Perhaps there's some subconscious jealousy issue. I'll admit I've given him reason to hate me, though."

Cally shrugs. "Guess it's a lost cause."

"It probably is." Archie looks genuinely apologetic as he reaches out and touches her on the arm. "I'm sorry, Cally."

"Me too," Cally says, rubbing the back of her neck. "G'night, Archie. I'm gonna go to my room."

He thankfully keeps himself from saying "Even if you have to spend it with Anders."
