4th Floor Common Room [Friday morning]

This is boredom for you. Mac has been busy all morning trading in her normal blue streaks for a Valentine themed fluoro pink. Every once in a while a girl needs a change, even if it might make her look a little like she was attacked by a pink-glitter weilding fairy. She suspects it won't last long. Meanwhile, despite having no date, she can still get into the spirit of the holiday.

Now, she's sat with a book in the common room, waiting to see how long it takes people to comment on the change. She's totally open to opinions, mocking and/or help dying it back if its luminosity scares too many people.

"Like the hair," Paige says as she walks in for no particular reason, other than if she spends another day in town she's likely to go mad.

Mac grinned, pulling out a strand to examine. "Well, it's certainly different, I'll give it that. I'm less than sure its staying, but I hear experimentation is never a bad thing." Shrugging she closes her book, "you have a free day today too?" pausing, she adds "I'm Mac, I don't actually think we've met yet".

She nods, "yeah I know all about experiemnting with hair colour," she doesn't say how she experiments with it of course not yet anyway.

"I have a free day in theory, in practice I'm meant to go work in the clinic and well you know homework, and no I don't think we have, I'm Paige Matthews, nice to meet you Mac. So how are liking it here?"

Grinning, Mac tucks the strand of hair back behind her ear. "The only colour I haven't tried yet is green, but I have this feeling that might make it look like someone tipped slime over my head or something. I might pass on that one."

"As for this school... I'm starting to get into it actually. The whole, freaky place is starting to seem surprisingly normal." She shrugged, "so long as we keep the snow-monsters out the way, I'm all good".

"Yeah the snow monsters were actually worse than the zombies, but the attacks are pretty few and fair between so yeah it could be worse. We could be at normal school where we don't have famous poets teaching literature and a student body made up of various not entirely normal kids." she grins "at which point I should probably say I'm one of the not entirely normal ones."

She rolls her eyes, amused. "Well that would just be far too boring. Who'd want it?"

Mac gave the other girl a quick scan, and seeing no apparent horns or fangs, had to enquire. "So, what variety of 'different' are you?" it was surprisingly difficult to make the question of 'what species are you?' not sound insulting.

As long as the term 'non-human' isn't used Paige is cool about it all!

"I'm a witch, I think we're one of the more common unusual things here. So you're one of the few 'normal' students right?"

Mac raises an eyebrow and grins. "Witch? Sounds fun. You're actually the first one I've met here. So far I've found Vampires, friends who are supposedly dead-but-not, mutants, demons and... I think that's it. well, either that or they just haven't mentioned it to me."

"Considering where we are... normal is not really, 'normal'. If that makes any sense at all."

"Wow I feel honoured to be your first witch then, and yeah it has it's advantages, although I'm not meant to use magic for personal gain with a bit of a downer."

"And yeah I know what you mean, this place kinda messes up anyone's idea of what normal is, I mean I'm living with a world famous poet!"

Then she hears the familar cough (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhighdorms/457948.html?thread=20774876#t20774876) and turns to see Sawyer. Her face falls a little, "crap!"

"I guess the whole 'personal gain' thing puts a bit of a limit on it... still, you definitely get cool-points. As does the living with a famous poet. Who is that anyway?"

Mac notices Paige's sudden discomfort at the entrance of some other people. "Are you okay?"

"Geoff Chaucer, the really cute blond poet who teaches here, we kinda dated a while ago."

She forces a smile, "very fine, it's just erm, boyfriend, well ex boyfriend now I guess." she shrugs, "no biggie."

"I don't think I know of him. Dating the faculty though, do they not get funny about that here?"

Mac nods in comprehension glancing over to the group on the other side of the room. "Awkward, I would imagine."

Paige looks a little upset that Mac doesn't knwo who Geoff is, in much the same way he used to."Geoffrey Chaucer? Wrote Cantebury Tales? Anyway he wasn't a teacher when we were together, he was just a regular hard working poet then," she replies obviously pretty proud of Geoff.

"and yeah awkward, I kinda messed, but well he's not even spoekn to since so I guess that's that." she shrugs, it's just one of those things that seems to happens to Paige

"Oh! That Geoff. Yeah, see I am not quite on first name terms..." She grins, "that is damn cool though. You have yourself your very own claim to fame right there, as if the whole 'I have magic powers' thing wasn't enough."

"I don't think there are many break-ups that aren't awkward and messed. I'm sure, given time, it'll improve." Mac paused, "having said that, I'm Miss permanently single, so... not really an authority on that."

"yeah that's my preferred claim to fame really, although I doubt many people outside Fandom would actually believe me!"

"Yeah I hope so I guess I'm gonna try to whole single thing for a while, it's a shame it's so close to couples day really."

"You have more than one claim to fame?" Mac looked pretty impressed, "you're doing better than me. I have a total of... none, actaully."

"Ah, the one bad thing about this time of year, it just reminds you about it the whole time. You never know, it might all work out for the best."

Han wanders in, and sees the pink-streaked girl. After ascertaining she's not Zero and has no croquet mallet anywhere handy, he settles in, his carrybag beside him, to wait for the people he needs to talk to before he leaves town for the weekend.

Sawyer clears his throat as he notices Paige is wihtin vicinity. He calmly takes a seat next to Han. He looks ragged, blame the lack of sleep and lack of Paige. Yeah.

Lana wanders in after Forensics and smiles when she sees Han. She hesitates when she sees Sawyer, but gives him a wary smile.

"Uh, hey." Sawyer offers her a small smile as well, it never hurts to be nice, especially to the soon-to-be bride of their project.

"Hi," Lana replies quietly and glances over at Han to see what's going on.

Han gives Lana a smile. "Lana, will you marry me?"

Lana stares at him dumbfounded. "Will I...?" She swallows hard and looks around the room, not quite sure what she hopes to find - some sort of an escape route or something perhaps.

"Um... this is kind of... unexpected..." Her face is bright red.

Sawyer rolls his eyes slightly and slides down into his chair some more, sighing and running a hand through his hair lazily.

"Just say yes." he mumbles, almost unaudiable.

Lana turns on him. "*Excuse* me?" she replies, looking really annoyed with him. "And what the hell do *you* have to do with this... whatever it is?"

Han sighs and starts from the beginning. It was worth it to watch Lana blush though

"Okay, Lana, we've got this assignment for Sex Cultures. We're doing weddings from all these cultures. And me and Sawyer, we got partnered up. Since he's not too keen on marrying me, I thought we'd ask you to help us out for the presentation. I'll make the arrangements for costumes, and you just stand up and play the part of a beautiful Viking Bride."

"Oh. Oh!" Lana looks massively relieved. "I didn't... I thought... I mean, I really *like* you, Han, but..." She blushes again and decides she should just drop the topic.

"Um... sure. I can do that. Oh. I'll have to check with Professor Methos to see if I can miss his class." She hesitates. "Or maybe I should just skip it and make it up later?"

"Thanks, we sure appreciate it. He," Han nods at Sawyer, "would look terrible in braids and beads. He'll do a lot better in a robe. Look, you two, I'm going into Washington this weekend and I'll pick up everything we need. Sawyer, you okay with sacrificing plush animals instead of real ones?"

"Totally okay with that." he nods slowly at Han.

"So presentation is on Tuesday. I'll be back Sunday Night."

He hands Lana a copy of the sheets on Viking weddings (http://www.drizzle.com/~celyn/mrwp/vikwed6.txt).

"Do we want to get together Sunday or Monday and practice?"

Sawyer nods at his second question as he glances over at Paige and the girl she's talking to; he'd really like to go over there and talk to her himself but currently, he's busy. When they leave, hopefully.

"Sure, either one's fine with me," Lana replies. "And have a good trip."

"Braids and beads? Animal sacrifice?" Lana raises her eyebrows. "I'll trust you, but you'll have to let me know what I need to do, okay?"

"You'll be gorgeous." Han shows her a picture (http://www.hurstwic.org/history/articles/daily_living/pix/woman_dress2_at_eiriksstadir.jpg) of the nordic women's clothing.

"We aren't going to look too bad (http://www.hurstwic.org/history/articles/daily_living/text/clothing.htm) either."

Sawyer gave Han the 'Shoot-Me-Now' look. God, those clothes !!

Han picks up his carrybag.

"Thanks. Both of you." He leans over to kiss Lana's cheek, but knows better than to try it with Sawyer. "See you Sunday."

He's almost whistling as he heads out of the common room and down the stairs.

Lana laughs at the pictures. "Okay, then. I guess you have yourself a bride."

She grins again. "Wonder what Shep's going to say. Especially given his current feelings about the whole marriage thing."

After wandering the halls of the dorms, Izzie makes her way up to the fourth floor. Seeing Mac in the Common Room, she decides to go say hi.

"Hey, Mac," Izzie says flopping down next to her. "Your hair looks great, by the way."

"Thanks," Mac grins, "I decided I needed a bit of a change. Pink seemed appropriate considering the time of year."

"Those cookies of yours were gorgeous by the way, I'm going to have to bribe you for the recipe at some point".

Izzie grins back,"I love bribes."

"What are you reading?"

I'm just getting round to reading it. It's something I hadn't really thought would interest me before, but actually, pretty interesting".

"Hmmm...that does look interesting," Izzie replies. "So, any big plans for the weekend? I have a Polish wedding to plan."

"My big plans pretty much involve getting myself out and about a bit, I feel like I've been a recluse the last couple of weeks." She shrugged, this is the start of it, tomorrow I might actually make myself leave campus."

Mac looked a little bemused at the final statement. "If its not a silly question, why are you planning a Polish wedding?"

Izzie laughed, "We're studying wedding customs in Grissom's class, Sociology of Sex Cultures. My partner and I are assigned the Polish wedding. I get to practice crying on cue. It's lovely."

"Getting out this weekend sounds good, doesn't it? I feel like all I ever do is homework."

{OOC: I apologize if it takes me a while to respond. I'll be afk a lot for the rest of today.:)}

"Polish weddings... wow, well I wouldn't know anything about that one. Uh, why do you have to cry?"

"I really do need to branch out. I haven't quite decided the *how* yet, but I'm working on it. There are posters for all sorts of things that're going on this weekend, I thought I might turn up at something, see how it goes. How about you, anything interesting planned?"
