The latter was rolling around on his back, batting at what appeared to be a whole lot of nothing in the air.

Archie laughed again and even tilted his head as if he were trying to listen to whatever had caught Vladdie's attention. "Is that a special vampire puppy talent?"

"I haven't the foggiest," Rory said. "I think he has an imaginary friend."

"May as well get used to it then, if he's perpetually going to be that age," Archie noted. "Still, he is rather charming about the whole thing, isn't he?"

"I didn't know dogs could have imaginary friends," Rory said, eyeing Vladdie.
