Second Floor Common Room - Lateish Evening

After putting in an appearance at Jack's party, Rory retrieved Vladdie from her room and changed into the cozy, cozy jammies Jake had given her for Christmas.

She hopped out into the common room, set Vladdie down on the floor, and took up the remote while keeping the puppy carefully in her sights.

"As well as can be considered," she murmured with a little smirk, nodding her head at the cane and sling that she was afflicted with. "I'm sorry, you look distracted, I'll stop bugging you."

"S'okay," Angel said. "I'm just really bad at talking. I don't mind though."

"You seem to be doing alright," Ivanova replied, still smiling. "Words are coming one after the other in a logical and coherent fashion. It seems to be working out great for you. In my opinion, at least."

"Thanks," Angel grinned. "I've been reading books on the subject. Supposedly they help. So I'm guessing the medical gear isn't a fashion statement for you?"

"I can tell. And if only they were," Ivanova rolled her eyes. "That would mean that I could take them off without getting the Glare from my roommate and any of the nearby medically-minded. Of which there are a distressing number. Personally? I think it's overkill."

"What happened, if you don't mind my asking?"

"Snow monsters," she replied succinctly. "I just managed to stay under the radar for longer before I was frogmarched into the clinic." Well, close enough. "Nothing bad. Sprained knee, seperated shoulder, broken collarbone."

"Fun," Angel said, sympathetically. "I just got an icicle in the shoulder. Not nearly as bad as you."

She made a face. "Oooh, ouch." She shrugged one shoulder. "Not the worst I've had. I'm just upset that it keeps me from my self-defense classes. And the more fun bits of Valentine's."

"Had somebody you were planning on spending the holiday with?" Angel asked.

Ivanova smiled. "Yes. Maybe. Probably. Yes." She smiled apologetically. "And the award for vaguest answer goes to . . . I just don't want to jinx anything. I haven't had the greatest of luck in that arena. You?" She may have waggled her eyebrows a bit.

"Ditto," Angel said. "About the luck I mean. But, uh, yeah. Callisto. It'll be a first for both of us."

Ivanova grinned. "Congratulations. I suggest chocolate. But that may just be the chocolate pimping I'm paid for talking."

"You work over at Wonka's?" Angel guessed.

"Got it in one, no prize," she replied with a smile. "I fear for my figure while I'm playing hopalong."

"They got you doing any stretches or anything?" Angel asked. "Not the same as weights and a heavybag, but better than nothing."

Ivanova shook her head. "Dr. Pevensie seemed rather at a loss with what to do with me. I've been doing what I always do when injured - ignore it until I fall over in pain. Er, almost falling over."

"I get that," Angel said. "Not much for painkillers myself."

"Finally!" Ivanova burst out. "Someone who agrees with me! Everyone I run into seems to want to drug me unconscious." So she wasn't above a bit of hyperbole.

"Can't stand it," Angel said. "I figure if I can handle it what's the big deal?"

"Exactly my point," Ivanova gleed over her new-found ally. "Can I count on you for a rescue next time I'm chased down the hall with a sedative?"

"Sure," Angel said. "Far as I'm concerned if somebody can do without then leave 'em alone."

"An excellent attitude to have," she smiled. "I take it you find yourself in scrapes requiring drugs more than your average high school student?"

Angel rubbed his side where he'd been stuck with a sword last week. You couldn't tell he'd been hurt by looking at him. "You could say that. Got a few people who wouldn't mind seeing me in pain. Got a few not-people who feel the same way."

Ivanova nodded in understanding. She hadn't encountered that at Fandom, but had had enough people and not-people after her that she could sympathise. "Some of our extracurricular activities are more interesting than others."
