Second Floor Common Room - Lateish Evening

After putting in an appearance at Jack's party, Rory retrieved Vladdie from her room and changed into the cozy, cozy jammies Jake had given her for Christmas.

She hopped out into the common room, set Vladdie down on the floor, and took up the remote while keeping the puppy carefully in her sights.

Blair waved at Archie from his place on the floor. "Good evening to you too!"

"Ah. Blair, is it?" Archie waved back. "I haven't seen you since the snow weekend, I think -- how have you been?"

"Good! I'm doing this whole dating thing right now which is great and classes are good. Did I ever give you back your blankets?"

"My blankets? No, but I don't miss them terribly," replied Archie. "Er -- how is that 'dating thing' going for you? I understand you had a date with Jaye today."

Blair set down his notebook and looked up. "Yes, I did. You're her boyfriend, right? You're not planning on beating me up or anything are you? I understand it's a territorial thing and am cool with it, I just want to know beforehand so I can take some notes."

"I'm --" Archie paused. "I don't know that I would say that just yet, so if beating you up, as you say, is an obligation of the position, then I am free of that obligation," he concluded, laughing.

"As it is, past events would lead me to believe that it would be hypocritical of me to do so."

Blair leaned forward and picked up his notebook again. "Did you date another man's girl? How did it work out in the end? Was there violence? Did the violence make you more attractive to the female?"

Archie hesitated for a moment, then opted to go with the more recent incident. "I -- well, there was a game of Truth or Dare, you see, and I was dared to kiss Parker in front of Jaye. It led to certain unpleasantness between them, but no, there was no violence, so I can't say it made me more attractive to her."

"Interesting." Blair continued talking as he wrote in his notebook. "It's very common in the animal world for males to incite violence to attract a mate. And it's not uncommon for them to make their mates jealous by flirting with another female, although usually they just have several mates."

Archie's eyes widened over the course of Blair's speech. "That's -- er -- not quite so common in the human world, I think. At least, that's what I had been given to understand. Though around here I'm beginning to question that assumption."

Blair looked around the room slowly. "Maybe I should write a paper on how animal mating rituals compare to fandom mating rituals. What do you think, man?"

"I, er." Somehow, the power of coherent speech seemed to be abandoning Archie. "Yes," he said faintly, "I think that would be a fascinating paper indeed."

"Cool. I'll give you a copy when I finish." Blair bounced and went back to his notes.
