Second Floor Common Room - Lateish Evening

After putting in an appearance at Jack's party, Rory retrieved Vladdie from her room and changed into the cozy, cozy jammies Jake had given her for Christmas.

She hopped out into the common room, set Vladdie down on the floor, and took up the remote while keeping the puppy carefully in her sights.

"You really kind of are," Rory argued.

Vladdie hovered up a little, possibly to be on the same level as Steve, and his posture stiffened.

Yes, it was entirely possible he was posing.

"Am not," Anakin said, then totally ruined any hope he had for that being true by taking several photos of Vladdie and his invisible friend.

"Say, um, Yip, guys," he said as he clicked away.

Rory smiled a bit sleepily. "Yeah, you so are."

Vladdie obligingly yipped, reaching out to poke at the camera.

"So not," Anakin said, sticking his lower lip out.

He moved the camera out of the way. "You don't want to touch that, Vladdie," he said. "It came from a scary, scary lady. Force knows what it might do."

"So are," Rory said, stretching out on the couch and looking over affectionately. "And Vladdie, listen to Anakin. You might turn into a mongoose or something."

Vladdie still sniffed curiously at the camera, and looked to invisible Steve as though consulting.

"Not," Anakin retorted, taking a hugely unflattering photo of Rory from where he was sprawled on the floor.

He glanced at Vladdie. "Does Steve not agree with me?" he asked.

"Are," Rory said, pouting. "And you're mean. Mean and dorktastic."

Vladdie looked back at Anakin and yipped, wagging his tail. He began a narrative, using a series of barks and yips, presumably to communicate what he and Steve had been discussing.

"I will just have to console myself with my stunningly good looks, then," Anakin said with a smirk.

He nodded at Vladdie. "Really," he said. "Huh."

"Yes, good luck with that," Rory said very seriously, though she was clearly struggling not to laugh.

She peered over the arm of the couch. "Can you understand him?"

"Hmmph," Anakin said, but it's clear he's not really unhappy.

He looked at Vladdie, then leaned closer to Rory and lowered his voice. "Not at all. But he seems so sincere."

"He does, doesn't he?" Rory murmured, smiling. "I wish I could understand him. Can you sense Steve? Bridge could, once he took off his glove."

Anakin leaned his back up against the sofa and looked at where Vladdie and Steve were. "Sort of," he said. "There's a definite presence, but there are a lot of those around this place. I've kind of stopped paying attention, really."

"Hmm." Rory looked over at Vladdie. "That's so weird. And kind of creepy. I have no idea what Steve is. My dog is haunted."

Anakin concentrated a little harder. "I'm not sensing any kind of menace," he said. "Just something kind of...um...spastic."

He smiled up at her. "Kind of like Vladdie."

"Aw. He made a friend who's like him," Rory said, smiling languidly. "Sean can see Steve too, I think."

"Can he? Huh."

Anakin closed his eyes. "Long day," he murmured. "Brain fried."

"Also long day. Puppy tiring," Rory said, sleepily reaching a hand out smooth his hair. "I should've taken a nap or something."

"Mmm," he said. "You don't have the proper headware for it. You'd need a hat from your room."

"But no one's going to decorate me," Rory mumbled, closing her eyes.

Vladdie, still conversing with Steve, waddled over to Anakin and crawled into his lap.

Anakin absently scratched Vladdie's back. "I could decorate you. You could wake up covered in glitter. I could exact my evil revenge for all kinds of imagined wrongs." He opened an eye. "There might even be cackling. You don't know."

"Mean and dorktastic, like I said. And I might even take back dorktastic because it's kind of cute-sounding and I totally do not think you are at all cute or worthy of affection. Since you are mean. Yes," Rory rambled, shifting on the couch and curling into herself.

"And here I was going to offer to take Vladdie into your room for you," he said, cuddling the puppy. "But I'm mean and unworthy of love. So I must now go off to my secret lair and come up with some kind of planet destroying device to cure my broken heart."

He grinned. "I'll call it the Death Star."

"Woe," Rory said, yawning and pulling her sleeves over her hands, curling up more into a ball. "Don't destroy any planets on my account. Do something productive, like forge an empire or something. Oh, and speaking of people other than me taking care of Vladdie, I have arranged for a puppy-sitter tomorrow. So that Vladdiekins won't try to interrupt our 'Woe is me for I am alone and sad' marathon."

Anakin reached up and ruffled Rory's hair. "Fine. I'll forge an empire instead. It'll be an evil empire, though. Because of the being mean thing, you know."

He looked down at the puppy in his lap. "That was good thinking," he said. "I'd hate to keep Vladdie awake with our sad stories."

"You'd be bad at evil," Rory said, her voice muffled by a pillow. "You're too nice. Except that you're mean."

"And yeah, Bridgey's going to take care of him. It'll be good for Vladdie to play with RIC for a bit. And stuff."
