Rory sat on the couch with Vladdie, watching the Eternal Champion DVDs that had just arrived. Thank God for Netflix.

She paused, and rewound a few times as she watched the Valentine's Day episode. Something seemed awfully familiar about that fiancé....

"I have no freakin' clue. I just woke up all Cally-fied. I'm hoping it was just a one-time thing. Contagious... that's a totally scary thought."

"So, what was it like to be Cally?" Anakin asked, putting his hands on his knees. "Was it really, really strange?"

"Really really," Bridge echoes. "And also? Eerily quiet. Didn't like it," he shudders a bit.

"I can't imagine," Anakin said, "not having the Force." He looked at Bridge with concern. "You doing okay?"

"Yeah," Bridge shrugged. "At least, now that I'm back in my own body with my own *everything*."

Anakin nodded. "Still. If you need someone to talk to about it..." he trailed off. "I'm good at listening."

"Aw," Bridge smiles. "Thanks, dude. I'll probably take you up on that sometime. But I warn you- I have a tendency to babble."

"Not a problem," Anakin said. "I'm trained to fake interest in diplomatic meetings, and you're way more interesting than anything the Neimoidians have ever said."

He shrugged. "Besides, with all of the emotions kicked up from Aeryn's departure," he stared at the floor, "it'd be nice to actually do something instead of just feeling bad all the time."

"Yay for being interesting!" Bridge smiles. "And yeah, it seems like a lot of us are worrying about the same sort of thing happening," he adds, making a face.

"You could get called home, too?" Anakin asked.

"Yeah," Bridge sighs. "I'm only here until the Academy is finished being rebuilt. Which could be anytime. Or what if Commander Cruger decides that this isn't the right sort of education for a Ranger?" Bridge bites his lip worriedly. "You?"

"I'm here entirely based on the goodwill of the Council," he said. "They don't normally let Padawans go anywhere without their Masters, let alone to a different galaxy. Chancellor Palpatine wasn't all that excited about the idea either, but Obi-Wan made a very good case for it." He continued staring at the floor. "If they decide I'm not doing well enough here, or if they need me home, I'm not sure I'd get much more notice than Aeryn got. Definitely not any more choice in whether I go."

"Yeah, normally, cadets aren't just turned loose on the known galaxies, either. But I guess they weren't expecting the school to get blown up." Bridge absently kicks at nothing. "It sucks, that they could make us go home anytime. I mean, not that I don't *like* home, but... I like it here too."

Anakin ran a hand through his hair and didn't look at where Rory was sitting. "Yeah. I'm pretty sure they'd let me stay through graduation, but that's only, what seven weeks away? Then I'm going home. Things to learn, destiny to fulfill, blah, blah, blah."

Anakin stared at nothing. "But I can't stay here forever, you know?"

"Stupid destiny," Bridge grumbles.

Anakin raised an eyebrow. "You've got a prophecy waiting at home about you, too?"

"Not exactly," Bridge said. Just a CO who's apparently been manipulating my life since before I was born, but I don't know that yet. "But in a few years my squadmates and I will be in charge of defending Earth against any hostile forces."
