Rory sat on the couch with Vladdie, watching the Eternal Champion DVDs that had just arrived. Thank God for Netflix.

She paused, and rewound a few times as she watched the Valentine's Day episode. Something seemed awfully familiar about that fiancé....

"Sorry," Rory said sympathetically. "Wanna talk about it? I mean, what happened aside from the 'oh my God I'm Cally' thing?"

"Well, Aeryn's leaving... it just- brought up some stuff."

"Yeah?" Rory asked. "Worried about whether it might happen to you?" She nodded. "Yeah. Aeryn leaving kind of made a lot of people think about that kind of thing."

"Yeah. What if Commander Cruger wants me to go back before I graduate from here? I mean, I don't know how far they've gotten rebuilding the Academy. They could be almost *done* by now," he eyes Rory. "A lot of people, huh?"

"A lot of people," she repeated. "Some people are kind of identifying with John, too." She raised an eyebrow at him. "What was the deal with you coming here, though? Aeryn was assigned here for a military thing."

"There was sort of an... accident, at SPD Academy. Blew up a big chunk of the building." Bridge doesn't mention the part involving evil aliens. "So it's sort of being rebuilt and upgraded, and in the meantime all us cadets were shipped off to different schools."

"Okay, yeah, I kind of knew that from the interview thing," Rory nodded. "But I doubt you'll be yanked out of here before you're ready. And even if so...would you be able to visit?"

Bridge bites his lip as he thinks about this. "I... don't know, actually. I mean, the only way I'd be able to come back is through a wormhole or something, and I'm not sure they'd want me to take an Academy shuttle through by myself."

Rory stared at him. And finally came up with her answer.

"Okay, no. You're not allowed to leave. That's just it. I will cling to your leg if I have to, but I can't deal with losing Bridgey on top of Aeryn on top of people who are going away in the summer. No. That's just not happening."

Okay, Bridge laughs at that. And bumps Rory's shoulder with his own.

"Thanks."

"I mean it," Rory said seriously, though she was smiling. "I'll sic Vladdie on you if you try to leave."

Vladdie, for his part, rolled over in his sleep and flailed at the air, dreaming of thousands and thousands of dust specks for him to chase.

"Oh noes." Bridge replies, just as seriously.

"Oh em gee, for serious," Rory said. "Fear the puppy."

"Good," Rory said, nodding. "But seriously, don't worry about it. If it happens, it happens. Worrying about possibilities makes no sense, because then you're always worrying and never enjoying stuff!"
