Anakin leaned over to look at her phone. "Nice picture," he said, amused by her enthusiasm. "What else did you do in Washington?"

"Went to the National Archives and the National Gallery and the Museum of Natural History," she replied, reaching for a bag. "Got you pressies, too."

She pulled out a stuffed dinosaur (http://cdkenterprises.com/animals/images/mz-111160.gif). "It's a stegosaurus," she said helpfully. "And I got you something else, too, but it's more delicate and less squishy."

"I got presents?" Anakin said with a huge grin. He took the stegosaurus and made it walk up the sofa arms. "He needs a name," Anakin said. "Any suggestions?"

"I like Hal," Rory suggested. "He looks like a Hal. But that's my toolbox's name. So hmm."

Anakin didn't even blink to hear that Rory's toolbox had a name. "Okay, not Hal. Not Kettch. Not Wasabi. Not George."

"Dan," Rory said firmly. "His name is Dan."

"Hello, Dan," Anakin said, lifting the stegosaurus up to his face. He turned to Rory. "Have I missed the part of your world where these are running around?"

"By a couple hundred million years, yeah," Rory said. "They're all extinct. They were like really, really big lizards, though I think birds are their closest living relatives."

"They were so fuzzy and cute, though," Anakin said, making Dan dance. "Shame I missed them."

"Scaly, not fuzzy. Dan's just a toy," Rory said. "There are movies on them that'll show you what dinosaurs were more accurately like. And really, really big. Like, Dan here? A baby one would be like, the size of my car."

"Oh," Anakin said, blushing. "I didn't know that."

"Of course you didn't," Rory said, smiling. "But Dan is very cute, definitely. And his kind was a nice dinosaur, too. Herbivore. Like a really big cow or something."

"Or a nerf," Anakin said, nodding. He looked up. "Which is an animal and not a fluffy orange ball. I've been told I need to make that distinction."

"Helpful, yeah, since my mind immediately went to squishy footballs," Rory grinned. "Are they like cows?"

"Sure," Anakin said. "They're prized for their meat, and are raised mostly on Alderaan. They're not exactly the brightest animals in the galaxy." He looked at Rory. "Are cows especially wily?"

"Really, really, really no," Rory said. "They're cute though."

She sifted through her bags. "I also got many, many, many books. Most of which aren't here. I think I'm going to have to pull a Bridgey and knock down the wall between my room and 211."

Anakin looked down at the bags. "Wow. Are there any books left in Washington?"

"Most of them are being shipped," Rory said, blushing. "I kind of like books."

Anakin's eyebrows rose. "They are more of them coming?" He reached for a bag. "What did you get?"

"Stuff," Rory said, scuffing a shoe. "Mostly books I already have but of which I needed new editions. And there are some first editions being shipped. I'm not sure what I want to read, first. But that's where I saw her, so I will forever have the best associations ever with Kramerbooks."

"New editions?" Anakin asked, smiling. "This is why we put everything on datacards--they don't wear out as quickly."

"Yeah, but books," Rory said, impassioned. "The way they smell, the way they feel...I mean, curling up on a couch with a book on a cold day, with a cup of coffee? Sure, they wear out, but the fact that books provide an entire experience makes it worth it to me."

Anakin gave her a smile. "I'm beginning to understand the appeal."

He looked at the bags again. "So non-fiction, fiction, poetry? All of the above?"

"And more," Rory shrugged. "Plays, novels, short stories, collections of articles or poems, et cetera. Some in other languages, though that's going to take a little more work on my part. I'm not as fluent in French or Italian as I'd like, though I've got Latin under my belt and that helps."
