Gym - Self Defense, Wednesday evening

The gym is in its usual set up. Alanna looks like she is working on re-defining the term "Bad Mood". "Sorry for forgetting the meetings for the past few weeks. Reminding me earlier in the day? Will not get your head bitten off. If you're polite. Anyway, eat cookies, pair up, try not to kill each other. I'll be here, watching."

Isabel took a spot on the mats and waited for Nadia.

Nadia stepped up on the mats, sizing Isabel up. She figured she'd let her strike first, so she could get a feel for how well she fought.

"Just so you know, I'm new at this," Isabel said. "Really, really new."

Nadia nodded. "Do you want to defend or attack, then?"

"Defending would be fine," Isabel said.

Nadia nodded and shook herself out a little.

She'd never really been on the attacking end before. That was okay though.

"I'll go a little slow at first, okay?"

"Slow is fine. Slow is better then fine." Isabel brought her hands up like Aeryn had shown her and waited for Nadia to strike.

Nadia stepped up and aimed a slow motion punch towards Isabel's jaw.

Isabel brought her hand up and blocked.

Nadia smiled. "Good!"

And threw another punch, slightly faster this time.

Since Nadia was still moving fairly slow, she was able to block it as well.

Nadia bounced back slightly. "Do you want to try attacking a bit, too? We could trade off."

"Sure," Isabel said. And then sent a punch towards her side.

Nadia's not much of one for blocking, so she jumps back instead. And aims a slow kick towards Isabel's knee.

She hasn't done much with kicking yet, so Nadia gets the hit.

Nadia immediately drops her foot back when she feels contact. "Dios, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. You barely touched me," Isabel smiled. "Now if you'd been really looking to hurt me, I'd probably be in trouble. I haven't done much with kicks yet."

Nadia shrugged. "That's most of what I do. A woman's strength is naturally in her legs." Nadia turned to the side and launched a kick at the air well away from Isabel. She grinned as she brought her leg back down. "Especially when she wears steel toed boots."

Isabel laughed, "Actually I had some fun with my pointy-toed heels at the party last week. I punted some nasty little critter across the room. Can you show me some kicks then?"

Nadia shrugged. "Okay. I was never really taught, but I could show you a couple basic things I've picked up over the years." Nadia thought for a moment about how to start.

"I guess the most important thing is never point your toes. Unless you want to lose them." Nadia stepped into a lose stance, her weight on her left leg. "You want to make sure your weight is balanced," she pulled her leg up to her hip, "And kinda kick from your center." She exteded her leg, her foot flexed back so her heel led the movement. "Like that."

"Balance is good. I tried imitating a kick I saw Aeryn do when I was sparring with Cam the other day and wound up on my ass because I was off balance."

She watched what Nadia did and then tried to imitate it. "Like this?"

Nadia tilted her head. "Basically, yeah. But I don't think you want to extend your leg all the way. I've done that while really kicking, and it hurts."

"More like this?" Isabel asked, bringing her heel down and flexing her knee just a bit. "That does make sense."

Nadia nodded. "Good! Now, when people kick at me, I usually duck or try to catch their foot. You want to step back when you go for the catch, though. And you have to be really fast."
