Logan sat on the couch eating Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs and watching cartoons. Multiple boxes of different sugar-coated cereal were on the kitchen counter and there was milk in the fridge, if anyone wanted to join him.

"Hey Angel," Cally leans over to scritch Sean behind the ears. "How's things? We've not, like, chatted since, like... you weren't you, I think."

"Entirely possible," Angel admitted. "Things are good. I'm not in the play, so frankly my life's perfect as far as I'm concerned."

"And you've got a beautiful girlfriend, so that's, like whipped cream on the sundae of awesome," Cally grins and continues petting Sean. "I'm not so lucky. Not on, like, the girlfriend front, though. I mean, I don't have a girlfriend, I have a boyfriend, cause Anders is definitely very much a guy, but, like, on the play front. I'm playing a lobster. And I can't even find one in the script."

Angel looked at Anders assessingly. "He could still be called pretty though. Gotta give him that."

Pause.

"Lobster? In Midsummer Night's Dream?"

"I told you I couldn't find it in the script. I think our Principal was taking some creative license, or something." Cally shrugs. "Kinda like the pageant, I guess."

Angel instinctively jazz-handed. Then tried to pretend that he hadn't.

"Um - will there be dancing? I know there's kissing. Callisto told me about the kissing."

"I haven't gotten the chance to talk to Cordy or Rory about it," Cally shrugs. "I have no idea, you know? I just hope the lobster doesn't kiss anyone."

"Hard to do without lips," Angel pointed out.

"Oh, good point," Cally says, before she takes a short pause. "Can I ask you something kinda... big?"

Angel looked at her uncertainly. "Sure?"

"So, like I said... I kinda haven't talked to you since, the thing that I didn't even know about, you know? The... soul thing?" Cally chews on her lower lip a bit. "I'm just wondering, like... how bad was he? Cause I totally didn't, like, notice."

Ah, this kind of big question. That he could handle. No, you don't want to know what he thought she might ask him.

"Pretty bad," Angel said, trying to put it as gently as he could. "He had no soul. He was pure evil. No hope of redemption."

"So... how come he seemed to be so nice to me?" Cally chews her lower lip a little more. "That's what I keep wondering, you know? Cause... I had no idea."

"It's what he does," Angel said. "He manipulates people. You were nice, so he knew it would be useful to appear to be a nice person. It's easier to be evil when nobody knows that's what you're doing."

"Oh, good," Cally says, visibly relieved. "Cause, like, people keep gawking whenever I mention the part where I didn't know about the whole evil thing, like it was a given. I don't feel so stupid about it, now."

Angel shook his head. "Don't. Angelus is an expert on pretending to be something he's not. He spent over a century learning how to manipulate people. It's not a comment on you that you believed him. Except maybe to say you've got a good heart, that wants to believe the best."
