Logan sat on the couch eating Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs and watching cartoons. Multiple boxes of different sugar-coated cereal were on the kitchen counter and there was milk in the fridge, if anyone wanted to join him.

"Only time I ever fell in love it hit me all at once," Angel said. He slumped back in his chair. "I kinda figured that's how it worked."

"Yeah, well, I'm pretty slow that way," Anders laughed. "Cally spent like half of September climbing into my lap and stuff, and I didn't even know why. And this is the first relationship I've ever had, so I can't be all wise about it."

"But how could somebody not know?" Angel asked. It's possible he glanced in Logan and Veronica's direction. "I mean - okay, maybe somebody couldn't. But isn't love a big thing? Shouldn't there be signs or something?"

"I think there are only signs if the gods or the powers or whoever don't think it would be funnier to watch us be all crazy about it," said Anders, and he actually kind of halfway meant it. "Anyway, maybe if there were signs people would take it for granted? Or, you know, sometimes people can't read signs."

"Sure, love they ignore but every other damn thing gets a prophecy." It's possible Angel was being whiny. Also pouty.

Anders nodded, and was trying very hard not to giggle. Because that would have been not-very-manly, and also kind of mean. "Seriously, I think the gods got a little too addicted to romantic sitcoms one day, and started with the prophecy stuff to cover that up."

"Tell me about it," Angel said. He slumped in his chair. "Frankly I think they make the whole damn thing up as they go. How else am I either ending the world or saving it? Hello, kind of a big difference."

Anders shoved his hands in his pockets and leaned against the wall in thought. "You know, sometimes I wish I could have some kind of big destiny or something, 'stead of just being a totally normal guy. Other times I'm kind of glad I don't." He cocked his head and asked, "Did we just totally go off the subject or does this have anything to do with your first question?"

"We're good," Angel assured him. "I just... I dunno. Logan and Cam were saying I might be, you know. That. And I'm not sure I see it."

Yes, there were far too many pronouns in that reply to be in any way useful or specific. Angel saw no problem with that whatsoever.

Well, Anders had never been known for his eloquence or general ability to form coherent statements (except in odd private moments, and those were always unexpected), so he didn't see any problem with that reply either.

"HOnestly, I haven't seen enough of you and Callisto together to tell, or, well, enough of you guys in general lately to tell," Anders said, a bit of a goofy smile curving up the corners of his mouth. "I mean, it's not like I know what to look for. And if you are, is that a bad thing?"

"The last person I fell in love with made me turn evil," Angel said, with the same rueful tone one would use to mention that you accidentally ruined breakfast.

"Oh," said Anders, in the lame sort of tone one might use when a perfectly innocuous "How was your day?" received an entire Greek tragedy for a reply. "Yeah, okay, I can see how that would be a bad thing. Seriously, the gods? Addicted to wacky romantic comedies."

"Actually that one's gypsies," Angel said, helpfully. "Cursed me with a loophole. Fun stuff. Except for the not."

"Yeah, I'm on board with the not." Anders nodded emphatically in lieu of anything more substantial to say.

"Plus... me and Buffy was a soulmate, forever love kind of thing," Angel said. "Even without the perfect happiness problem, I kinda don't know what to do with anything that doesn't involve a destiny."

"Enjoy it while it lasts?" offered Anders. He chewed on his lip and stared off at the far wall for a moment or two. "Like, I know me and Cally haven't talked about what we want to do after school or anything. I guess we're kind of afraid to bring that up even though we're sort of assuming we'll still be together and everything. We'll talk about it when that gets closer, but for now I just wanna enjoy being with her and not ask too many questions, y'know? I love her, we're happy, and for now that's good enough for me."

"Yeah, exactly," Angel said. He put his hands out in front of him as though he could physically hold the concept in place. "Here and now. That's all I want to worry about. Anything more and I start wanting to hyperventilate. Which is strange because I don't breathe."

"That's a seriously useful skill sometimes," mumbled Anders before he realized what he was saying. "I mean, um. Here and now, yeah. 'cause I don't think you're ever gonna get another 'here and now' quite like this one."

"You don't know the half of it," Angel muttered. He cleared his throat. "Yeah. Plus, gals like Callisto don't come around too often. Most people freak out about the vampire thing. Not that I blame them."

"Yeah, I --" Anders stopped short. He was still a little hung up back there on the whole not-having-to-breathe thing. Maybe, quite possibly, a little bit jealous, not having thought the whole thing through too well. "Yeah, she's something. You don't wanna lose that. Her, I mean."

"Trying not to," Angel said, holding up fingers that were crossed hopefully. "I'm kinda new at the whole dating thing, so I'm feeling my way. Um, not literally. That part's fine."

"That makes two of us then," replied Anders, mimicking the crossed-fingers gesture. "So far we seem to be doing okay with it. I mean, I think so anyway."

He stared at his crossed fingers as if to say they'd better not make a liar out of him.

As if reading Anders's face, Angel said, "You realize we just gave ourselves a high likelihood of jinxing our relationships?"

"Yeah, we just . . . aw, frak." Anders might have started to look more than slightly panicked over that.

"It's okay," Angel said. "I think acknowledging the jinx cancels the jinx."

He thought about it.

"...unless acknowleding the acknowleding turns it back on again. Crap."
