Second Floor Common Room, Saturday Late Morning

Yesterday's attempt seemed to be a success, so for the second day in a row, Anders is out here armed with all the necessary pancake-making paraphernalia. There's a fresh pot of coffee in the coffee maker and no shortage of sugar and cream (not to mention whipped cream, cinnamon, and chocolate syrup if you're so inclined). Cleanup is a pain, so there's a small stack of paper plates on the counter next to a box of plasticware. Plus hey, with Angel out of danger, there's cause for celebration here.

Hence the decision to attempt a small batch of chocolate chip pancakes.

He thinks he might be halfway decent at this breakfast thing after all.

Kara follows the smell of coffee down the hall and into the common room to find Samuel busily working in the kitchen. "Hey," she says, sleepily, covering a yawn.

"I hear sleepiness," says Anders without looking up from the stove. "For the gods' sake, have some coffee, Thrace, and I should have a stack of these suckers ready to go in just a minute."

"I'm getting to it," she mumbles, as she opens up a cabinet and grabs a mug, sniffing it to make sure it's clean. Satisfied, Kara grabs the pot and fills up her mug. Taking a sip, she murmurs her approval and goes over to peek over Samuel's shoulder. "Yum."

Anders shrugs and slides a fresh pancake onto a plate. "Gilmore said they didn't suck, at least. You like 'em with butter, or not?"

"With lots of butter and syrup," Kara replies.

"Only way to have 'em if you want to do it right." He grins and puts a good-sized pat of butter on top of the pancake, letting it melt there while the next one cooks, then butters that one as soon as it goes on top of the stack.

"Syrup's over there," he says, pointing to the other end of the counter, "and there'll be more where those came from pretty soon."

"Great, thanks," she says, as she starts spreading the butter around. Taking her plate and moving further down the counter to give Samuel more room to work, she opens up the syrup and drowns it. "Not bad, Samuel," she says, after taking a bite.

Anders grins. "The Kara Thrace seal of approval, or as close as it gets. I feel so honored. Hey, gimme time, I might even improve."

"You should. It doesn't happen often," she says, giving him a wink as she takes another bite.

"Well, go me, then," he says, laughing. "You realize we're gonna have to hit the gym extra hard to work this off later."

"I've only had one," she protests.

Cally wanders in, drawn by the smell.

"Whoa, champ, you're... oooooh, pancakes."

This time Anders does turn around and look when he hears Cally's voice. Because he totally loves her way more than Kara. ~~Canon be damned.~~ "Damn right, pancakes. Even makin' chocolate chip ones for you." He points at the two fresh, melty chocolate chip pancakes he's just put onto a fresh plate and grins. "See?"

At this point, he realizes that the melted chocolate is going to do bad burny things to the pan if he doesn't scrape it out of there, so he does that, and then pours in some more chocolate-chippy batter.

"Chocolate chip pancakes. Love in breakfast form," Cally says before bouncing over to kiss him on the cheek. "Love you too, champ."

Anders figures he can risk a few seconds, so he pulls Cally into a brief yet spectacular bear hug. "Takin' care of my coach, right? 's what I do," he says before turning around to flip the pancake.

"Hey Cally," Kara says as she swallows another mouthful of coffee.

"Hey Kara," Cally says with a wave before grabbing her plate of chocolate chip pancakes. "How're you doing?"

"Well, I haven't keeled over from Samuel's pancakes yet, so I consider that a good," she replies, sending a smirk in Samuel's direction.

"He's gettin' to be a pretty darn good cook," Cally nods before taking a bite. "He's, like, the perfect guy."

Anders just laughs. "I can make pancakes and cupcakes, that's all. I don't qualify for good cook status yet."

Kara goes quiet for a moment, and thinks about another guy who fits that description. "Yeah," she sighs and takes another sip of coffee.

Cally takes a bite, and chews for a moment. "I might be convinced to share," she says.

Anders immediately takes a violent coughing fit over the stove.

Jerked out of her thoughts, Kara stares at Cally. Too shocked to come up with something appropriately snarky, she gives Cally a brief smile and says, "Not much for sharing," and takes a big gulp of coffee.

"Are you sure? The chocolate chip pancakes are reaaaaally good," she says, not knowing what everyone could possibly be thinking.
