Basement Pool: Thurday after classes: Pool Party!

Various inflatable pool toys are scattered in the pool and around it.

There's a radio playing any number of random CDs provided by Pippi. So unless somebody else wants to bring some music there's an eclectic mix of Flogging Molly, Butler Fetish, The Ramones, and sea shanties blaring.

There's also a table chock full of foodstuffs.

Swim. Eat. Play.

Leave your emo at the door.

"Don't forget our trip to the spa!"

"Of course," Nadia straightened her legs and wiggled her toes. "Maybe I'll get a pedicure anyway. Because then when I'm a girl again, I can still have pretty toes."

"Trip to the spa?"

"Yes. As a girl in a pretty dress, you'll require pretty nails, too, since you don't want to wear gloves."

Being a girl could be rather complicated, at times.

"Do you have stuff to take polish off afterward? I'm not wearing nail polish on Sunday." But he hadn't ruled it out.

"I've got some nail polish remover, don't worry. And if you get a french manicure, then it won't even necessarily look like you're wearing nail polish. That might be the best to go with your dress, too."

And once again, Walter was reminded of just wwhat he was choosing to do on Saturday. Was he completely out of his mind? Well, yes. He was.

"This is really going to be brilliant, Nadia." And any emo thoughts that wanted to intrude at that point were ruthlessly reminded that they were completely not invited to this party.

Nadia grinned. She had no idea if Walter meant what he said, but, well, it was good to hear. "I hope so. You realize, if I'm the boy, I'm going to have to lead when we dance?"

She could lead, she just really wasn't used to it.

"Did you tell Pippi that you learned how to Schottische? You'll have to do it with her." Dancing? In heels? How was he supposed to pull that off?

Backwards, of course.

"Ooo, yes. She doesn't have a date yet, I don't think."

"You taught Nadia the Schottische? Wonderful!"

Pippi dove down into the water and popped up near the edge. When she did, she shot out of the water and up onto the poolside. She changed the music to a sea shanty that would serve to dance the Scottish Polka.

"Come over here Nadia. Show me how you lead."

Okay, it was one thing to do the hopping dance on the roof with weetiny bunnies and Walter. It was kind of another to do it by the pool in a crowd of people.

But, hey, dancing is dancing, right?

"I've only done it once, but we'll give it a shot,"

She stood up to join Pippi and held out her hands.

Pippi take Nadia's hand and puts the other hand on her arm. ((Nadia's leading after all.))

"Okay. You're leading."

"Okay." Nadia shot a quick glance at her feet, then hesitantly steered Pippi through the first few steps.

"How'm I doing?"

Walter got up to grab another brownie and watch the girls dance. The party just kept getting better and better.

"Very good!" Pippi said patting her arm as they turned and bounced.

"One thing to remember?" she said, "And I know this sounds wierd, but you have more time to do the steps then you think. So slow down a little."

"That's funny," Nadia said, as she slowed down a bit to match the tempo better. "Walter kept telling me to go faster."

"Well, did you have any music playing when you danced with Walter?" she asked.

"Or it could be just that you took his advice a little to well."

Choking on that brownie? Maybe.

"Does rain count?" Nadia laughed as she got more into the rhythm of the music and of the dance. "Hey, he's steered me pretty well, so far."

And hop hop hop and turn turn turn and 1 2 3 and 1 2 3 and bounce bounce bounce.

"There you go." said Pippi. "Rain has a very fast tempo indeed."

"Yes, it does." Nadia hopped and turned and bounced, and my, this swim suit really didn't have that much support.

Still, she was having quite a bit of fun.
