All the packing was done, so she took a diet coke and went out to watch TV. The remote was on the table as she tried to pay attention to The March of the Penguins...but she fell asleep anyhow.

She looked over and blinked. This was just getting better and better. At least this girl she sort of recognized.

"Phoebe? Uh, hi?"

"Uh huh! It's me. Whatcha doing?"

She blinked a few times, almost more stunned at how much wee!Phoebe looks like her grown up self.

"I'm just...nothing. What are you doing?"

"Racing Nadia and jumping off of things," the nine year old said matter-of-factly. "We found the Best. Game. Ever. on the computer."

She frowned. "They told me you're leaving, CJ. Don't you like us no more?"

"Oh, Phoebe, of course I like you. I just...my job is over."

Dealing with little kid logic? Not really her strong suit.

"So tell them you need a new job, then," Phoebe said logically. She paused and then her eyes welled with tears. "Are you leaving because I we did something wrong?"

"I can't, Phoebe. I have to get back to my world. It's nothing anyone did...it's just time." she said, reaching out to brush away the tears, "Don't cry, sweetie."

"But I'll miss you if you go and you're the only one I have left. Everyone else has left me already," she said sadly.

"Now, Phoebe. That's not true. You have your sisters and Bel and Camulus and lots of people. Don't exagerrate." she chided gently.

"Not exagerrating," she said in a hurt voice. "Camulus already went away. He left me a note. Bel? Bel's a boy!"

"Well, what about..." she scoured her brain to think of who Phoebe spent time with, "Lana and Kiki and, um..." yeah, she was out.

"Oh, Hell. Phoebe, come here."

Phoebe sat down and gave a deep, dramatic sigh.

"Evil is not of the good and our tutoring didn't finish," she said with childish logic. "I don't want to miss you, too."

Phoebe:
Phoebe nodded and came over closer to CJ. "Kiki is leaving, too," she informed her. "Only one not gone is Mr. Crowley, but I think he left, too."

CJ:
"He's never gone, Phoebe. He's the evil in the world...but you don't really want him. Look..." she said, patting the seat beside her. "...it's tough, but this is part of growing up. You have to rely on yourself. If you can't do that, then no matter how many people you have around you, you'll always be empty and lonely. That's the point of our tutoring, you know?"

Phoebe:

"I don't want to miss you either, Phoebe. But I have to do grown up things. You have to do growing up things. It's the way it is."

"Growing up seems very sad." Phoebe said. "And not any fun at all." She lay her head on CJ's arm. "Am I ever going to see you again? Will you write?"

"Of course I'll write, sweetie." she said, even though she wasn't certain anything would actually find it's way to the island. "And growing up is hard, but it can be fun. What about prom? What about getting your driver's license? What about..."she thought for a second, "...getting married?"

"I like your class," Phoebe said forlornly. "Prom... that's the dance you get to be dressed up really pretty?" She shook her head. "Grams says marriage is a like a war and it's best not to go into the battle."

She laughed in spite of herself. "Your Grams sounds like a smart lady. But what's important is what you think about it, hon. You don't have to decide now...that's the fun of growing up."
