Fifth floor common room, Thursday afternoon

The television is tuned to an episode of AKA. The volume is up pretty high. That would be to so Nadia could hear it over the sound of the hair drier she was using, on it's highest setting, on a very wet pair of jeans.

She's strung up a line between the lamp and one of the door frames. It's covered in similarly very wet and wrinkled clothing, which she's attempting to dry with the hair drier. There's fabric softener in her hair, and spots of it on her jeans, but somehow she's managed to keep it off Walter's t-shirt.

She's looking pretty annoyed. Whether that's due to the lack of success in drying her clothing, or something that's happening on the television, it's hard to tell.

Nadia didn't hear the knocking. She was too busy cursing the evil old guy on the TV and the laundry machines at the school.

Also, she wouldn't have expected knocking in the common room.

Pippi continued to move along the wall, knocking on it.

The sound penetrated, and Nadia frowned, then switched off her hair drier. She turned and blinked at Pippi.

"Looking for a secret passage?"

"Yup!" she said, "Can't wear Grandfather Fabe's coat and hat and not look for booty and adventure!"

Well, that made about as much sense as anything else ever did. "Let me know if you find something that dries clothes without holding them for ransom."

"I think you've got it in your hand there."

"If I want it to take all day and burn out my hair drier, yes." Nadia sighed. "Stupid laundry machines."

"It's interesting you're using your hair dryer to dry your clothes, I heard the clothes dryer did your hair last night."

Nadia twitched, and self-consciously patted at her hair. "Who told you that?"

"... A little birdy."

[nadiathesaint]

Nadia scowled. "I hate the driers. I don't even use the driers, but I hate them." She switched the hair drier back on. "They threatened my cat!"

"Why would they threaten Furrball?"

Because she threatened them with her mallet, first? "I don't know, they're just mean."

*knock knock*

"You should tell Dean Soredon." Pippi mused. "That would likely be a factor in the negotiations."

Hadn't she heard something this morning about students taking matters into their own hands?

Nadia turned back to her clothes line, holding the hair drier consideringly. "Maybe I'll do that. At least the doors are behaving again,"

"Oh yeah huh?"

Pippi had heard that too, but had continued singing to the doors anyway.

Ah well.

Nadia nodded, idly wondering if Pippi would find a secret passage in the common room walls.

On the TV, Perth's half-fraternal-twin-sister was arguing with her ex-evil-ex-good-ex-evil-ex-father-in-law, then tripped over the couch and broke her neck.

Nadia shouted several rather nasty Argentine curses at the TV screen.

Pippi wondered the same thing.

*knock knock*

"Whatever you said, I think I know how to say it in lobster."

"Professor Dream taught you curses?" Nadia tilted her head. "Or did you get them from Anna?"

"No, he never let anybody teach us any of the good words. We learned it from Anna... Mr. Neilson learned more'n Walter an me."

"He's good with languages, I guess?"

"He spent longer talking to Anna then we did."

Nadia nodded. Such things happened, when you were wee.

"When do we wanna do the roof party? Tonight or tomorrow, maybe?"

"I dunno. I think Walter wanted to do it tonight, but tomorrow's my birthday so that would be nice to."

"Your birthday is tomorrow? Why didn't you tell me? I'll have to go get you a present!"

"I didn't? I thought I had..." she said, "Oh well. I have to get you a present too!"

Nadia raised an eyebrow. "No you don't, my birthday was in March. Remember? You helped throw a construction party."

"It's my birthday isn't it? I can give gifts if I want to."

Nadia had been nine recently enough to know better than to argue.

"Well okay, then."

Now, what to get Pippi?

"Sure. I just need to take down all this stuff." She gestured with her hair drier to the clothesline. "I'll move it into my room. Furrball will just have to deal with getting dripped on."
