494 stared off across Fandom Town and wondered if the draw to high places had to do with the cat genes in him. It was a nice view here anyway, and quiet, which was what he kind of wanted for the moment.

But anytime someone wanted to be quiet and alone at FH? Someone was likely to interrupt.

He lifted one shoulder, non-commital. "I figure I'll know it when I hear it. Though I guess I'd better work quick, or someone's going to think I really am 'Scooter'." 494 glanced at Dean again, lips pursed slightly as if he had something else to say but maybe didn't think it was wise.

Dean shrugged. "A nickname's better than no name. I suppose I could call you 'handsome devil who looks like me' but that takes even longer to say than X5-494." The expression on the other's face made him frown. "What?"

494 was about to shake his head, then decided to paste on another grin instead. "I know 'Dean' is apparently a good fit," he said slyly.

That made Dean grin. "Yeah, as if it's not confusing enough already with us looking alike."

"What, you don't think it'd be fun to have an evil twin?" The grin widened - there were a lot of possibilities in that...

"Does that mean I'd have to be the good twin?" Dean asked, then mulled over the idea. "Although," he continued slowly, "sometimes it would be a good thing to have an ironclad alibi."

"I'm not cutting my hair to match yours," 494 warned, eyeing Dean speculatively. "Mine's definitely better."

Dean snorted. "Maybe in some freaky assed universe where they don't even give out names it is, but everywhere else, I definitely come out on top."

He snorted back. "If you want to cling to your delusions, far be it from me to stop you," 494 said. "Still doesn't make it true."

"Whatever, dude. Anyway, doesn't matter if you cut your hair or not; the alibi thing probably wouldn't work here. They already know that there's two of us."

The corner of 494's mouth twitched into a smirk. "Technically, there's three of us."

Dean blinked. "Huh?"

He nodded. "Yeah. X5-493? Another us. Well, actually, my twin, since we're from the same tube, but hopefully he won't be showing up." 494 paused, a dark look flickering in his eyes a moment. "He'd better not, anyway."

Dean flashed back on the conversation he'd had with Cedric that morning and the half joking/half fearful comments he'd made about wondering if there were more. "Please tell me that there's not 492 more versions of me where you and your... twin come from."

494 shook his head. "Just us, I'm pretty sure. If they managed any more of us from the DNA samples, they didn't survive." He gave Dean a vaguely amused glance. "We were made in a government facility, somewhere in Wyoming, if that clears things up for you."

"It doesn't, but thanks." Dean felt himself relax a little at the knowledge that there weren't hordes of Dean lookalikes with no names running around out there somewhere. That would've been too much.

He glanced at 494. Hell, one was too much.
