Logan was in the kitchen. Cooking. Because when you were in a kitchen, working with a blender, you could call it cooking. Even if the result was more beverage-y than food-y. It was practically summer, anyway. Perfect time for a cold iced drink. With tequila.

The television was playing "Annie".

Jack's smile softened. "I'm sorry to hear that. But that confirms it: he's not too bright. But, judging by the whole lack of 'wanting to kill him' vibe, I'm guessing you're still friends?"

"Usually," she said, looking over at Logan. "But yeah. It wouldn't have worked out anyway, blah blah, and so I'm just concentrating on school. It's less complicated and there's way less chance of getting hurt."

And that, Rory thought to herself, was all kinds of ironic.

His eyes narrowed as he wondered exactly what was going on inside her head.

He wanted to say, getting hurt is the chance you take, it's part of the fun and you can't just hide from life, but he was pretty sure it wouldn't go over well. He settled for, "There's something to be said for the simple life. Though I'm not sure that this school would actually qualify. Or Harvard."
