"That could get boring and old," she agreed.

"They are. Max is my brother," Isabel explained. "We found out last year that Michael is supposed to be my betrothed husband." She made a face that clearly expressed what she thought of that idea. "That is not going to happen. I've been treating him like a second brother for entirely too long a time."

"Betrothed?" Jamie said with a blink. "Oh."

Isabel rolled her eyes. "That's pretty was my reaction when I found out. Followed quickly by a Hell No! that was echoed by his girlfriend. You have to understand, the crash really messed things up. So we never knew our history or how things were supposed to be."

"So you're *not* betrothed?" Jamie asked as though setting the matter straight.

"No," she said flatly. "I don't care what the home planet thinks."

"Oh. Okay," Jamie said looking slightly relieved. "That's good because that can really put a damper on the old social life."

"Very true," Isabel agreed. "It's bad enough when you mention a brother, a cranky fiancee? I'd never date again."

"Still... What would happen if the home planet insisted on it?" Jamie asked.

"The home planet can kiss my ass," Isabel said seriously. "We're going to go back and save them as planned. Beyond that? I'm going to live my own life. Besides, Michae's girlfriend might have something to say." Isabel grinned, "They'd wind up agreeing to anything just to shut Maria up."

Jamie laughs and gives Isabel a smile. "Very defiant of you. Sounds like your home planet will have no choice. Oh hey... look there's Dawn. I have to talk to her a second."
