Outside Seahorse Cabin: Friday Mid-morningish

Jack had handwavily made a town run, stopping at J,GoB and the Perk and returned to the Seahorse cabin bearing coffee and pastries.

He was now stretched out, face down in the grass, enjoying the intermittent sun. Yes, shirtless - it's the Seahorse Way.

The pastries are for all, but he'd promised one of his fellow Seahorses a coffee every day they were in the cabins, so the one he wasn't drinking was for her.

It's fairly easy to come across Jack when you're on your way out of the cabin.

Smiling down at him, he asks, "Enjoying your morning?"

Jack tilted his head to look up at him. "It just go better," he said with a small smile. "Pastry?" He pointed at the box on the stairs.

"I can't resist that offer," Cedric says and reaches into the indicated box to take a pastry. "You've been up long?"

"Good." Rolling onto his side, he propped his head on his hand and watched Cedric. "No, I actually slept in this morning. You?"

"I slept well," he says, taking a seat on the steps. "I think I'm becoming used to the cabins and their noises by now. And you're shirtless again," he adds, smiling.

"Used to the cabins just in time to head back to the dorms? Perfect," he said with a teasing smile. "And yes, I am. I think it's the Seahorse Way. In fact, it leads me to wonder why you're not." He cast a speculative look at Cedric.

"No one asked me to be," Cedric answers, taking a bite of the pastry.

"The sign in the common room wasn't enough?" Jack asked.

"Oh, there was a sign?" Cedric returns, playing dense for the time being. "I must've missed it."

"That explains everything," he replied, repressing a grin. "'Shirtlessness encouraged' it says. It's kind of the cabin motto."

"I'm enjoying seeing the motto at work," he says, nodding at Jack's curren state of shirtlessness. "It's working out well for me so far."

Smirking, Jack asked, "You're not enjoying it enough to join in?"

"I'm shy," Cedric says though it's obvious it's a lie.

Sam was giddy with adrenaline as she made her way back to the cabin. "Hi!"

"Sam! Cup on the stairs, next to the box. Coffee for you, as promised."

"Yay!" Sam grabbed the coffee and sipped, not that she needed the caffeine. "This is now officially the best day ever. Thanks for remembering, Jack. That was nice of you."

"I keep my promises, Sam. Especially when they're made in such memorable circumstances." Smirking up at her, he added, "Near nakedness concentrates the mind wonderfully."

"I usually have the opposite problem," she winked, "and lose all my concentration and ability to think all at the same time."

"Really? I find nakedness a wonderful aid to concentration. Lets you really focus, so there's nothing to distract you from the source of the nakedness."

She swallowed, and told herself the heat in her cheeks was from nothing more than adrenaline and coffee. "That's quite a gift you've got there."

"I'd be happy to demonstrate sometime, if you wanted," he replied innocently. "You're a bit red there, Sam. Had a busy morning?"

"Got to see whatever the heck happened to the Stickbug cabin, then went and flew and killed myself in the simulator a bunch of times," she said happily, ignoring Jack's offer, at least for the moment. He probably wasn't serious, anyway. "It was great!"

"I heard about that - the Stickbug boys got whammied by Isabel, didn't they?" He shook his head. "They really should have picked a different cabin to inflict ducks on. They're lucky that's all that happened to them."

Had Jack known what she was thinking, he would have pointed out that he's always serious about those sorts of offers.

Grinning at her enthusiasm, he said, "Sounds like you really enjoyed the flight simulator - even with the dying. You planning on being a pilot?"

"I'm not sure exactly what happened. They weren't very chatty, as you might guess." She sipped at her coffee. "Maybe. I'm still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up. Assuming that ever happens."

"I think growing's up kind of inevitable, isn't it? Or is that one of the laws of physics you don't have to follow," he asked, smiling up at her. "And there's plenty of time to decide what you want to do. Isn't there?"
