The nature walk hadn't turned out so well. So after getting Walter and Nadia tucked into their respective nooks she settled down to finally eat the lunch she had packed for the hike... And maybe throw a few darts.

The electric kettle is on for tea.

Alphonse wasn't doing much of anything else, so instead of going back to his own cabin he decided to join Pippi in the common room. He still had his bag full of edible foodstuffs with him, but it had hardly been touched. "So much for an afternoon walk, huh?"

"Yeah." Pippi who's mun has just discovered she SUCKS at making Swedish style pancakes said unpacking her lunch.

"At least it's not a total wash." she bit into an apple, "We still got our lunches."

"I've got more than just for myself," he said, dumping the contents of the bag on the table. "If you want some, dig in. I don't think I can eat it all."

Pippi had the metabolism of a bumblebee, so she was happy to take Al up on his offer.

"I should like to have an adventure much better if it didn't involve people getting knocked on their bums."

"Or moose and squirrels," Alphonse added. "Along with... whoever those people were. And what the heck is an 'upsidasium' supposed to be?"

"Well, they were looking for a mine... So I would suppose it's an ore or mineral..." She mused while opening her lemonade.

Alphonse quirked an eyebrow. "But there isn't such an ore or mineral called that."

"Well, you would know better then me Al. Maybe it's newly discovered?"

"... I wouldn't be surprised," he scoffed. "This world's got several elements that are completely useless, if you ask me."

"Like what?"

"Well, there's quite a few of them that are man made, but are unsafe for a natural environment and don't serve any real purpose," Alphonse pulled up a chair, sitting in it and crossed his arms. "There is the whole bit about doing it for the sake of scientific studies, but what's the point of creating something you can't apply to everyday life? It's not much of a science if it doesn't do anything for anyone."

"How do you know if you can't do anything with it before you make it?"

"I guess you can't, really, but there's too many of them for me to say they're all skewed versions of what was originally intended," He nabbed a sandwhich on the table and took a bite. "It doesn't matter too much, I just don't get why anyone would bother."

"It's my experience that people often do things simply because they can."

"Unfortunately," he sighed. "In the long run, it still doesn't explain what an upsidasium is."

"Well, it must do something if people would bother to mine it... Right?"

"I have to wonder what a moose and a squirrel want to do with anything that can be mined."

"Or why they were being chased... I hope they're okay. Those other two were really rude."

"Those other two didn't look like the friendliest bunch," Alphonse agreed. "I would've tried to help them if they hadn't done what they did."

"Well... I've not heard of any mines on the island, so all four of them are in for a disappointment."

"Maybe there is and nobody's charted it on any maps yet?" Alphonse was beginning to look curious.

"Hmmm..." Pippi said, "A lost mine on the island? How exciting! We should endeavor to find it on the marrow!"

"I hear there's all sorts of things out in the forests. Who says there can't be a mine?"

"I dunno... Who?"

"Um." Alphonse simply took another bite of his sandwhich, unsure. "... No idea. But I'm kind of curious to see what an upsidasium is, and what it can do if it is some sort of ore."
