Camp Gym, Late Wednsday Night (after astronomy-late)

Tim headed for the gym, wearing the same clothes he wore for gym in high school, sweat pants, sneakers and a Flatbush High School t-shirt.
There, he waited on the deck for Gwynn.

mostly for Gwynn, but open for any other interaction or Gym needs

As promised, Gwynn showed up at the gym right after her Astronomy workshop. When she saw Tim waiting for her, she smiled and stepped up onto the deck.

"What would you like to learn about the sword styles first?"

[[OOC: Off to bed. Will reply in about 4 hours. :)]]

Tim thought. "Uhm, well I guess just the basic one. The sword I have is, I think it's a short sword, wideish blade, kinda leaf shaped."

His arms had been crossed as he leaned against the wall, the better to conceal the water gun.

no prob. you only sleep four hours?

As water dripped off of her, Gwynn's eyes glittered a little.

"You do know that throwing water on the person about to teach you how to use a long sword is not normally considered practical?" Her lips were twitching as she fought not to laugh.

"What is that thing?"

[[OOC:Sometimes. Depends on my headaches.]]

Tim blinked. He hadn't thought of that, silly boy that he was. "I'm not always practical." he said.

"this is a watergun." he said. "It squirts water at people. For fun."

"So that's what a gun is!"

The watergun was small, green, and plastic. "Well they're shaped generally like this." Tim said. "Most of them are a lot more dangerous though."

Gwynn looked at his face and waited for the rest of the explanation.

"This," Tim said, holding up the plastic trinket. "Is a toy, fashioned after real guns. It squirts water, or if you're looking to stain someone's clothes, grapejuice. Real guns fire metal projectiles that kill people. They're mostly bigger than this thing too."

Gwynn frowned. "I think I like my bow and my sword better. No metal projectile."

"Not a gun fan myself." Tim said. "Well, except harmless ones like this. Anyway, shall we?" He made slight bow and gestured for her to proceed into the gym.

Gwynn entered the gym and retrieved two wooden practice swords. She handed one to Tim and showed him the basic beginning stance.

Tim took the sword, and ~~looked at her legs~~ watched where she put her feet, copying as best he could. He felt stable, so that was probably a good sign. "Okay," he said.

Gwynn smiled at Tim.

"If you were going to attack me, how would you do it? Show me."

Tim pondered. All he knew about sword work came from the movies. He was pretty sure he shouldn't try any of that fancy stuff. "Like this?" he guessed, jabbing forward quickly.

Gwynn nodded, but then turned at the last minute and blocked his thrust with her sword,

"That would be a good idea, but only if your opponent has a shorter sword." She smiled and thenshowed him how you swing a sword. "The thrusts come later when you have exhausted your partner."

"got it." Tim said. "Thrusting comes later." no! get back here words!

He took a few practice swings with the sword, managing to not look like he's flailing.

The naiveness that is Gwynn didn't realize that these words had a double entendre.

"Yes, you thrust at the end and when the climax is happpening." She was watching his form. "If you thrust too soon you leave yourself unprotected and could become fodder."

Tim forced himself to not think about the double meaning that could be interpreted there. He nodded in response to her words.
"So instead I should swing, like, what like this?" he swung slow and easy at her knees.

Gwynn nodded. "Exactly." She moved her sword. "If someone swings at your knees, you swing your sword to block it... like so."

Seemed simple enough so far. "What sort of attack did you learn first?" he asked.

She thought about this for a moment.

"I believe I learned to block and swing at the knees first."

She had been a bit more wee than she was now.

"So I'm on the right track then." Tim grinned. He tried another slow swing, this time a upward slash.

Gwynn watched him and then bounced happily.

"That was terrific," she said. "You're a natural."

Tim grinned and tried it again, faster. A bouncing Gwynn was a wonderfull sight to see.

Gwynn was delighted.

"Okay, now pivot on your foot like you are going to block a combatant coming up on your side... like so."

She demonstrated the move for him.

Tim watched, and did as she did. He lost his balance a bit at first, but regained it. He grimaced. "Good thing you're a good guy." he said.

"I'm a hero... but also a bandit," she said quietly. "Most people don't care that I fight for the good of my country."

"There's a lot of that in the States." tim said, trying the technique again, managing to not wobble, though it wasn't perfect.

"Folks like Jesse James, Billy The Kid, Doc Holiday. You listen to one person, they're heroes. Like your dad. Fighting the oppressors, helping out the little man. You talk to others, cold blooded killers."

He lowered his sword and touched her shoulder. "For what it's worth, all I've ever heard of your dad was good. That's how he'll be remembered. A hero."

Of everything Tim could have said to her in that moment, that was the best thing. She smiled and hugged him tightly before stepping back. Her cheeks were red.

"Thank you. It is good that people know even now that my father was a hero to the people."

Tim froze when she hugged him, taken aback, and it was over before he could hug back. His face might just have matched his hair for a moment.

"You're, uh, you're welcome." God he was smooth.

"Want to try your new moves against me?"

He grinned. "Yeah I think I can do that." He swiped at her stomach.
