Squirrel campfire (unlit), Thursday morning

Nadia didn't have any workshops today, and so was sitting around at the campfire wondering what she should do with herself for the day.

Her plan may have included lying around in the grass somewhere and watching clouds go by. Of course, that would lead to her thinking about what Walter might be doing in his sex ed class and thinking that she really should have signed up for that one when she had the chance. . . .

Gwynn came out and sat down next to Nadia.

"Where can I find one of those weapons that shoots water?"

"You mean a squirt gun?" Nadia shrugged. "Probably Stuff for Sale. Or All and Sundries, but I don't recommend that store. The owner's really nasty."

"I think we should find several of them and start a battle."

This may not have been Gwynn's best idea ever, but she seemed to be very excited about it.

Nadia smiled. "That could be fun. We could get water balloons, too. It's good weather for wettening."

"Is this going to be like the superball attack?" Walter asked, coming out of the cabin, as his sex ed class wasn't until the afternoon.

"I don't know, water balloons don't bounce," Nadia pretended to look thoughtful. "But if we had enough of them. . . ."

"Water balloons?"

"Balloons filled with water?"

Did they have balloons in Gwynn's time?

"Stretchy pieces of rubber filled with water that burst on impact," Walter supplied. "I have a workshop this afternoon, but we could go into town before or after and get some."

"This would be a fun activity for us, yes?"

Nadia grinned, even as she wondered if they had rubber in Gwynn's time. The mind, it boggled.

"Yes, I think so. Maybe I'll go into town this afternoon and grab some supplies." She had to go back to All and Sundries eventually, after all. "I can stop by and talk to Lucas about maybe getting some extra hours while I'm there."

"I think it would be fun. You probably don't realize this, Nadia, but we British aren't accustomed to this ungodly heat. Anything that helps is good."

It's a good thing one of the first lessons of butler-fu was how not to sweat like a pig in waistcoat and tie.

"I discovered yesterday that buckets work in a pinch."

"This is definitely much warmer than I have experienced," Gwynn agreed. "Do these balloons hold as much water as that thing Tim has?"

"Oh, they hold more. But they're more awkward to carry around."

Nadia blinked at all of them. "This isn't hot, it's only, what, 30 degrees?"

"It doesn't get this hot at home," Walter explained since he's missed out on the joys of global warming and late 20th/early 21st century heatwaves. "We aren't used to it unlike you."

"It's nevere this hot at home, either."

"It's only June, guys. It's probably going to get warmer."

"Which is why a water fight is ideal."

"Will we pick certain targets or do stealth raids?"

"Or just stand on top of the cabins and hit anyone who walks by?"

"I think I very much like that plan, Nadia."

"That's a good one... Shall we stand atop our own roof or try to take over some other building?"

"Or we spread out to take over a number of cabin roofs."

And this is where the tactician in Gwynn gets all excited.

"We could probably spread out enough and keep low where we'd be hidden for a little bit and in a circle we could cover a great deal of area."

"I like the way you think. Okay, I'll go get some water guns and water balloons this afternoon."

"We need flags... or badges or something..."

All armies had something to identify them, correct?

"We could look for that stuff while we look for the balloons and guns. Do you want to come with me?"

Gwynn nodded. "I would enjoy that." She hasn't really seen much of the town.

Excellent. Nadia really hadn't wanted to go alone. "Great. I'll meet you there this afternoon, then?"

"Get me something fun," Walter said with a grin. "I'll pay you back after Sex Ed."

Nadia successfully refrained from saying something like "don't have too much fun there without me" or equally foolish. "Got it. See you then."
