Flamingo Campfire - Saturday Evening

Just before sunset Veronica heads out to the campfire, this time determined to start it on her own.

"Well, let me know if you can't figure it out. I never did get a chance to start one with my power," Piper said, almost pouting.

"So, radio was interesting last night," she continued.

Veronica moved a couple more sticks around and added some wadded up paper to use as kindling.

"I cannot believe they broke into the radio station and did the broadcast!" she ranted. "I wasn't even that late."

"Yeah, that was pretty crazy...especially some of the things they said. Guess I can't blame them for what's written in the notes, though," Piper said.

"I swear sometimes I think the informants really are woodland creatures," Veronica said. "The notes can be really illegible and non-sensical sometimes."

She bit her lip as she studied the configuration in front of her. She hoped this worked. She grabbed the box of kitchen matches, struck one on the box and tossed it in the fire.

"Woodland creatures? Around here, I really wouldn't be surprised," Piper said, snickering slightly. Then she got serious. "So, you and Bel were just talking, right?"

She didn't intend to come right out and ask that question. It just sort of happened.

Veronica was so excited to see the fire starting to catch that it took a minute for Piper's question to register.

She turned and gave her friend a look. "Of course we were just talking," she replied. "Why would you think we were doing anything else?"

"They said you were talking, but apparently there was something weird with the notes. Guess because of the woodland creatures," Piper said quickly, instantly regretting asking about it. She couldn't help feeling concerned for Phoebe's sake, though.

"I listened to the broadcast. Several times, in fact. But why would you of all people believe something like that?" Veronica asked.

"I didn't really believe that," Piper said. It's possible she was feeling guilty for even suggesting otherwise. "I was just thinking about Phoebe. I don't want her to get hurt again..."

Veronica nodded. "I can understand that."

A thought occurred to her. "Hell, I wonder if Archie heard the broadcast," she said. "I hope he doesn't think there's anything going on. He doesn't know about... the stuff that happened between me and Bel before."

"He doesn't? Do you think you will tell him someday?" Piper asked curiously.

"I don't know," Veronica replied honestly. "I told him about the stuff with Logan's dad. Well, most of it. And eventually I'm going to have to tell him the stuff about Duncan. I just don't want to dump my whole neurotic history on him."

She shrugged. "And besides, Bel and I are friends now. There's no reason for Archie to get all up in arms about him."

"Sometimes it is for the best to keep things from people we care about," Piper agreed. "As long as they don't find out some other way. Then it's just a big mess..."

Piper knew that all too well.

Veronica nodded. "It's hard to know where to draw the line."

"Yeah," Piper agreed.

"So, Anakin and I are taking our workshops on a field trip to DC," Veronica said, deciding a subject change was in order.

"Ooh, that sounds like fun," Piper said. "What made you decide to do that?"

"We were talking about places he should visit on Earth before he has to go home at the end of the summer and somehow decided it would be a good idea," Veronica explained. "So we went and talked to Dean Washburn and she approved it."

"Well, that sounds like it'll be a good time. I know I had a good time when we went last time."

Veronica laughed. "So did I. I hope my photography students don't try to emulate me though."

"Or try to steal the Declaration of Independence," Piper added, snickering.

"Shh," Veronica said. "They might hear you and get ideas. And the last thing either Anakin or I need is having students get arrested on our watch."

"Oh, right, I should have been more careful." Piper was still snickering.

Veronica gave her a mock glare. "I'm totally calling you for help if something bad happens."

"If anyone gets arrested, I'll use my mad freezing skills to help them escape."
