Dorm Stairwell, Monday Evening

There was such a thing as being too tired to shimmer, and Bel was that weary after a day of spilling things he didn't want to spill and dodging the questions he could. So instead of shimmering back up to the attic, he headed up the stairs.

He hoped he didn't run into anyone.

Veronica was on her way back down to her room after talking with Nadia. Her only plans were to shut herself in her room and not talk to anyone else until tomorrow, when Piper's spell wore off.

She wasn't really watching where she was going though and ended up walking right into Bel.

"Sorry," she apologized immediately before looking up and realizing who she had bumped into. Oh hell.

Veronica. Of course. He would run into her. "Um. Hey," he said.

"Hey," Veronica said carefully. "Um, how are you?"

That should be a safe question, right?

"Trying to avoid talking to anyone," he said. "You?"

"Same," she admitted. "Do you know what Piper did?"

"Yeah," Bel said. "She told me. Didn't want to, but she told me."

Veronica nodded. "Yeah, same here. She didn't realize that it effected the entire dorm until I told her what happened with me and Archie last night."

"I figured out it was more than just me and her when I spilled my guts to Callisto," Bel muttered.

"You spilled your guts to Callisto... and you're still alive?" Veronica asked, her shock clearly obvious on her face. "I would never want to tell her about my feelings for Angel."

"She doesn't consider me a threat," Bel grumbled. "So guess I'm safe. You, on the other hand...."

"Me, what?" Veronica asked. "He chose to just be friends with me and date her. Not like I'm a threat either."

She shook her head. "Did Piper tell you that she thought we might have really been sleeping together?"

Because that was a smooth subject change.

"You're blonde and feisty. You are his type, not me," Bel said. "And why the hell did she think that?"

"Because of radio," Veronica said. "It really disappointed me though, because she knows all about my hangups in the sex department and still thought that."

She clamped her hand over her mouth.

"Sexual hangups?" Bel said. "No wonder Logan was cranky all the time."

Veronica slapped Bel's cheek.

"I was raped a few years ago, you bastard."

"How the hell was I supposed to know that?" Bel said, rubbing his cheek.

"You weren't," Veronica said. "But that comment was totally uncalled for."

"Sorry," Bel muttered.

"Don't worry about it, you didn't know," Veronica said.

"Did Piper tell you why she cast the spell?"

"Yeah, to find out what I was hiding," Bel said. "I'd say I was going to kill her but I can't."

"You didn't tell her, did you?" Veronica asked. "Because I understand why you don't want Phoebe to know those things."

"Of course I told her," Bel said. "Didn't have much of a choice."

"I'm sorry to hear that," Veronica said sincerely. "But maybe it won't be as bad as you're expecting. Archie and I ended up telling each other a few pretty major things last night and we're okay."

"Did you tell him you're hot for Angel?" Bel said bluntly.

"No," Veronica said. "Because I'm not. Not the way you are, at least. He saved my life and he was always there for me. My feelings for him are really complicated, not just 'gee, he's hot, I wanna screw him.'"

"And you think that's what I feel?" Bel said, glaring.

"Well, isn't it?"

"Fuck you," Bel snarled. "You don't know anything."

Yeah, Veronica knew it was kind of mean because he had no choice but to tell the truth, but she kind of didn't care at the moment.

"It's...it's complicated," Bel said, looking away from her.

"Okay," Veronica nodded. "I'm sorry."

She bit her lip. "Maybe we should both just go back to our rooms instead of trying to talk," she suggested. "Because I kind of want to hug you right now and it's freaking me out."

Bel blinked. "You do? Why?"

"Because you look kind of pathetic and maybe a hug would make you feel better," Veronica replied.

Oh, very diplomatic.

Bel glared. "I am not pathetic!"

"I didn't say you were," Veronica said. "I said you looked it. Never mind. I'm just going to go and let's both pretend this conversation never happened."

"Yeah, probably a good idea," Bel murmured. "See ya around."

Veronica nodded and started walking down the stairs. After a few steps, she thought of something she'd said to Nadia and she turned around.

"Hey, Bel?"

He paused at the landing. "Yeah?"

"I forgive you for what you did to me and I trust you now," Veronica said quickly.

Bel was speechless for a moment. "Thanks," he said. "That means a lot."

"You never seemed to believe me when I said it before," Veronica said. "Now you know I can't lie about it."

"True enough," Bel said with a faint smile. "And I'm sorry for the things I did."

"I know. But it's good to hear again now," Veronica admitted with a small smile.

"It's good to be able to say it," Bel said. "Um. Anyway. I'll catch you later. I better get going."
