Outside, convenient clearing in the nearby woods, late afternoon

Dean found a convenient tree to sit under, and settled down, back against the trunk. He took a long drink of his Mountain Dew, leaned his head back and closed his eyes.

The headache he'd had since the end of karate this morning was still there. He thought at first it was just caffeine withdrawal; he'd had a grand total of half a cup of coffee in the last two days so it was possible. Hence, the Mountain Dew. It hadn't helped.

The dorms had suddenly seemed too small, too crowded and too stuffy so Dean had abandoned them and ended up out here in the woods. Which was...nice. It was quiet, there was a slight breeze and he could almost smell the impending rain in the air.

He'd be quite content if he could just get rid of this damned headache.

After his computer workshop, Sam had gone looking for Dean, asking around enough to finally go searching for him outside. He stopped for a second when he finally saw Dean, and crept a little quieter, hoping to sneak up on him before he opened his eyes.

Dean heard the smallest of sounds, and turned his head in that direction, eyes snappiing open.

"Let me guess. Super hearing is part of Alec's benefits package?" Sam smirked.

Dean relaxed when he saw who it was. "Looks that way."

Sam caught the relaxing, and frowned lightly. "What are you doing out here?" he asked, hoping not to get mocked again for being concerned.

Dean shrugged. "Got a headache," he said casually. "Thought getting some air might help." He eyed Sam. "You?"

"I just thought I'd come out and enjoy the weather," he lied casually, before moving ahead and sitting down next to Dean. "How long have you had a headache?"

Every trace of anger flushed out of Sam as Dean fell over, and he was by Dean's side before he had the conscious thought that he had to move. "Dean? Dean!" Sam screamed, kneeling down next to him and wrapping an arm around him to try to make the shaking stop.

Dean could hear his brother calling his name but it seemed to be coming from a very long way away and sounded like he was at the bottom of a deep well. His eyes were open but all he could see was an upclose view of the forest floor.

He tried to answer, tried to move, tried to stop shaking, but nothing seemed to work.

The best he could manage was a tiny whimper, like the sound a wounded animal would make.

The whimper went straight to Sam's gut, and he just held on tighter, mind racing as he tried to think of what could possibly be wrong.

"Oh, oh god, Dean. Just hold on, it's going to be okay," he said, before swearing loudly and holding on a little bit more.

"Let him go," Alec barked, pushing his way through brush as he forgot any hesitancy he might have had in approaching them. Even when Dean was falling he'd kind of hoped it wasn't this, but he'd really known better. "Lay him back, but don't hold him down!"

Sam whirled around, shocked even further by Alec's sudden presence, but years of receiving barked orders made him let go of Dean even through his confusion. "What's wrong with him?" he asked frantically, laying Dean back.

"Seizure," he said shortly, looking Dean over as he neared them and falling to his knees beside Sammy. Alec watched his own body convulse, gone a little pale himself now that he had to see it for himself, and waited for it to pass.

"Sure you did," Dean argued. "That's what we do when we have, uh, intense discussions." He managed a smile. "It's okay, Sammy. Really."

Sam gave a small laugh. "I guess I should let you get away with 'Sammy' this time, huh?"

"Like I don't get away with it all the time." He took a deep breath, struck by a full body shake, there and gone again before he could really react to it. When it passed he turned to Alec."So you want to tell me what the fuck's going on?"

"Seizures," Alec said guardedly, then smirked. "Another fun part about being an X5."

"Seizures," Sam repeated. "Do you get these often?"

"Not all the time," he said, shrugging.

"Enough," Dean broke in, his tone half exasperated, half just tired. "Back off Sammy, okay? Yeah Alec should've said something, but at least he was here when it happened. Besides to do anything to him, you'd have to beat up my body and I'd like to avoid getting it back damaged." He met his brother's eyes, his own serious. "I'm all right. Really."

Then he turned his attention to Alec. "As for you, you didn't ask me to care, but guess what? I do so you can fucking deal. Yeah, you should've told me -- and we're going to be having words about this whole seizure thing when I feel less like I've just got run over by a semi. But you were here and the pills seemed to have worked so..." He gave a faint smile. "Just next time -- if there's a next time, give me the pills before I fall over, okay?"

Sam wanted to say something, anything that would get Dean to side with him about this. But the serious look in Dean's eyes was all the response he needed - Dean really did care about Alec, and Sam wasn't sure, but that might have felt just a little bit worse than watching Dean's seizure in the first place.

"Fine," he said, looking down. "If you say you're all right...never mind. I'll back off."

Dean didn't feel up to dealing with both of them the way he probably really needed to, but he tried his best. "Sammy," he said, waiting until his brother looked back up. "Thanks. If I'm going to fall over and start twitching there's no one else I'd rather have with me."

Sam snickered and smiled at Dean in spite of himself. "Thanks," he replied. "That's what you get for making fun of me earlier for being worried."

Alec chewed at his lip, not really listening as things fell back into something approaching normal. Digging in his pocket, he palmed the rest of the pills and held them out for Dean to take. "Take one every night, or anytime you get the shakes. Don't take any chances," he said, exhaling slowly. "I've got more in my room anyway."

Dean took the pills from Alec, closing his fist tight around them. "Thanks," he said, with a small nod. "We're still going to talk about all this, but later when I'm not so wiped."
