The Roof, Wednesday Night

Bel? Still in demon form.

Elizabeth had suggested that it was an emotional reason, not a physical or magical one, that was causing him to be stuck in demon form. Janet's examination seemed to confirm this. Willing to try anything at this point, Bel was on the roof, trying to relax. Trying not to think about how he would be under a death sentence if he ever set foot in the Underworld again. Trying not to think about how he had almost screwed up his relationship with Phoebe by keeping things from her. Or how he was worried that he couldn't control his demon side. Or that people thought he was sleeping with Veronica. Or that Angel was shacked up with Logan.

Stressed, him? Nah.

So. Relax. Bel lit up a cigarette and settled by the garden, trying to clear his head.

"When you need to relax," Bel mumbled, "what do you do?"

Veronica blinked. She hadn't been expecting that question.

"I don't know," she said. "I guess it depends on why I'm trying to relax. When I'm really upset, I usually end up taking a really long shower. Sometimes I just zone out and listen to my MP3 player. Ice cream almost always helps. Why do you... do you think you're stuck because of stress?"

"That's what Janet thinks," Bel said. "My blood pressure and heart rate and hormones are up and that may be stopping me from shifting back to human form." He scowled. "I don't know if ice cream would help me."

"Well, you have been under a lot of stress with everything that's been going on," Veronica pointed out. "And one of your biggest issues was being afraid of not being able to control your demon. Maybe that has something to do with it?"

"Maybe?" Bel said. "I'm willing to believe anything at this point if I can just change back."

"Yeah, I can understand why," Veronica said. "Maybe instead of trying to supress your demon half, you need to embrace it as part of you."

"Embrace it?" Bel repeated. "I can't believe you of all people just said that...."

"I'm not suggesting you start killing people again," Veronica said. "But it's always going to be a part of you, whether you like it or not. You have to accept that."

"I don't like that part of me," Bel growled. "Not anymore."

"Not liking it doesn't make it go away."

"I've already lost control of what form I'm in," Bel growled. "What if I lose control of my temper or fall back on old habits?"

"Maybe you need to have faith in yourself," Veronica suggested. "You have to trust yourself. Maybe you being stuck is your fear of losing control manifesting itself."

"Other people have faith in me," Bel said. "Phoebe...Angel.... Sometimes I don't know why."

Veronica bit her lip and considered if enlightening Bel about the truth spell was a good idea. She finally decided that if it helped him, it would be worth it.

"Do you remember running into me on Monday evening in the stairwell?" she asked.

"Vaguely," Bel said. "I can't remember what we talked about for some reason."

"We were under a truth spell," Veronica explained. "And I told you that I forgive you for what you did to me. You said it meant a lot and that you were really sorry."

"We were?" Bel said. "What? How? And...yeah, it would mean a lot for you to say that. And I am sorry."

"Piper cast it by accident," Veronica said, not wanting to get her friend in trouble. "And even though we're not under a spell, I can tell you that I do forgive you. And I know that you're sorry."

"What else did I say?" Bel asked with trepidation.

"I don't know," Veronica said. "I don't remember the conversation either. The only reason I know we talked about that was because I wrote it in an email that I sent before the spell wore off."

It hadn't occurred to her to wonder if she had told Bel anything else. Well, if she had, he didn't remember, so no harm, right?

"Email?" Bel said. "Who did you write an email to?"

"Oh, don't worry, I recalled it first thing in the morning when I woke up," Veronica said hastily. "I'm pretty sure he never saw it."

"He? Who?" Bel demanded.

Veronica looked down and muttered something that might have sounded like "spangle" only without the "sp" sound at the beginning and with a soft "g".

Bel stared at her. "What else did you tell him?"
