Seeing as he'd spent the entire day doing nothing productive, Alphonse dragged himself out of his room and decided to continue being unproductive in the common room.

He's got the television on, but isn't paying much attention to it.

"That doesn't sound good," Walter said to the new arrival. "Aspirin?"

"Nah." Conner rolled his shoulders experimentally, wincing just a bit. "Nothing a little more activity won't fix eventually. Walter, right? The omelette guy?"

"That's right. And you're Conner, yes?"

"That's me. Sorry about the nickname, it's just the first thing I remembered."

"That's quite alright," Walter said, waving away the apology. "It's far preferable to Nadia's roommate's tendency to call me Wally."

Conner grimaced. "Yeah, I hear that. My twin brother used to call me 'Connie' when we were kids, and I always thought it wasn't fair that his name was Eric and I couldn't come up with a similar one for him."

"I didn't have any brothers or sisters. Is he here, too?" Walter asked.

"Nah," Conner replied. "He's back home in California, doing whatever it is he does with his touring rollerblading team."

"And what brought you here, if you don't mind my asking? Everyone here has an interesting story of one sort or another."

"Well, my hometown had gotten really, really weird over the past year. So the original theory," Conner said, "was that it was a shot at getting away from the weirdness and getting used to being more normal again, especially with my senior year transcripts getting lost. One of my old teachers got a job here and told me about this place, and when I heard about the summer camp I thought it would be a nice change. Obviously that normal thing so isn't happening, though."

Walter shook his head and laughed. "No, that definitely is not happening here. Although, compared to my life at home, this is normal. It's all relative."

"Rough place?" Conner asked curiously.

"London during the second World War. I work for an organization that hunts vampires."

Well, that was certainly an answer. "Okay, I can see how this place is definitely normal compared to that."

"In some ways, yes. Although I have picked up some stories here that are going to raise eyebrows even back home. Are you liking your time here other than the oddness?"

"Oh, yeah." Conner nodded. "It's . . . well, I'm not going to forget any of this, that's for sure. Even if I wanted to."

"I understand the sentiment. Don't be positive about it, though. With the witches about, you just can't be sure."

Conner raised an eyebrow. "Good point. Let's not take that for granted."
