School Grounds - Wednesday Morning

Kawalsky was up early on Wednesday morning. He'd had enough of sleeping. Ever since the mummy attack, he'd either been sleeping, eating or watching TV. He'd been a little upset with himself for getting tossed around by the mummy king and definitely for not being as fit as he should have been. Kawalsky had gotten lazy. He hadn't exercised and he ate too much junk. As a result, he was slower than he wanted to be and unfit. That would change from today.

He still had his cast on, but it was healing well as far as he could tell, and the little bit of healing from Alanna in Crichton's room after the attack made sure that he could still write, even if his shooting aim was still a little off its normal accuracy.

Today was the day that he got off his backside and started a training regime. Kawalsky had done drill sergeant duty before. He'd trained plenty of kids in boot camp. Now he would face the ultimate challenge - trying to train himself.

He tightened his shoelaces and headed out for a run.

John was outside, up early today. Still can't sleep, what with the arm and the dreams. Ho, what's that? Kawalsky? Jogging?

"Hey, need some company?" John shouted as K-man approached.

"Hey Connor, long time no see," he called back. "Company's welcome as long as you're gonna jog along. No rest for the wicked, blah blah, you know the drill."

John adjusts his sling to be roadworthy, and indicates he's ready. "How've you been, man?"

Sam had been on her way out for her own run and called out to Kawalsky, who was ahead of her. "Hey, stranger! Want company? I don't promise not to slow you down, though, so think before you answer."

"The size these love handles have become, I'd be worrying about slowing *you* down," Charlie called back. "But come join the party. Jogging is the new pink or something."

Sam made her way over, a little slowly. "I'll see your love handles and raise you some cracked ribs. How's the head? And what's wrong with the old pink?"

"Head's fine. Alanna cleared it up when we were still at Crichton's place. As for the pink?" He grinned. "I dunno, it's just something I heard someone say. 'The new pink' is like 'the in thing' or 'what's cool'."

"Yeah, she helped with my wrist, too," Sam nodded. "I felt bad, because she said she felt useless, but I figure anyone who can fight and make the pain better afterwards is pretty much one of the least useless people we've got."

"Okay, so I'm still not the new pink." She grinned back at him. "I think I'm okay with that. Where are we heading?"

"Alanna's too hard on herself. Guess it comes with the territory though." He looked out at the island. "Beach run?"

"Beach is good. My quads'll hate you later, but it'll be pretty."

"Tell your quads I'll buy them a beer if they can keep up." He started off again. "The other weekend made me realize how outta shape I am. Should've moved faster than I did. I figure it's about time to get back into a routine."

She fell into step with Charlie. "Tell me about it. I think I got most of my injuries from when Luna 'rescued' me. Which she shouldn't have had to do."

"Anytime you want someone to run with, especially on weekends, just knock on the door."

"Cool," he replied with a smile. "Training other people is way easier than training yourself, so I get the feeling I'm gonna have a hard time getting back to the level I was at before. Still, got nothing else to do between attacks by random weird things. What're you up to this week?"

"Workshops, mostly. Training Jack's been put on hold until I can take a hit again." She rolled her eyes. "Wait for random weird things to show up. Went to DC last Sunday for a field trip. What about you?"

He did not glare ahead at the mention of Jack Harkness. At all. Nope. "Class. Sleep. Food. TV. Not necessarily in that order."

"But you're better now, and that's the important part," Sam said as she lengthened her stride a little. "I think you'll be surprised by how easily you bounce back into shape--you're dealing with a younger body here, not a medium one."

"Hah, medium! Thanks for not calling me old, Sam," Charlie grinned. "I'm liking that I don't have to ice my knees after every long walk or run."

"You weren't old, Charlie, and I'm not sure you ever will be," Sam grinned back, but she meant what she'd said. "But yeah, I was just starting to have to ice and soak things, and I don't miss that a bit."

"I'm gonna take good care of my knees this time around," he said. Yeah. That was gonna happen.

"Oh yeah?" She laughed. "How're you gonna do that?"

"No jumping from airplanes," he stated confidently. "Or...not so much jumping from airplanes."

"You could just take an air mattress with you when you jump...tie it to your waist like a chute and let the air pressure changes inflate it. Oh!" She said, laughing as she ducked below a low branch, "you could just aim for those inflatable moon jumping things like they have for kids' birthday parties."

Kawalsky shook his head and laughed. "Man, you've been into the caffeine already, haven't you?" He took care to avoid a root on the ground. "If I do any more jumps, it'll be for fun. Don't think I'll be going Air Force this time around."

"Oh shush, I only had two cups," Sam chuckled. "Yeah, you said that a while ago. I just wasn't sure if that had changed."

"It might change, but for now? Nah. I figure if I can hitch a ride with someone, might be worth going to see the universe. *A* universe. Or a few. I dunno," he grinned. "Lots of choices."
