First Floor Lobby, Saturday Afternoon

Cally didn't even want to think about going up to the second floor, or anything even beyond it. She just decided to camp out in the lobby, since it was kind of lonely in Veronica's room.

Sure, it was probably a location most likely to end up seeing Anders again, but she wasn't thinking that far. This was mainly a measure to not go up on the roof and start dismantling the Viper, piece by piece.

Piper, for once, didn't feel like baking, so she had gone to J,GOB for some baked goods. She was on her way back to her room when she spotted Cally in the lobby.

"Hey Cally," she greeted.

Cally looked up from the book she had brought with her. "Oh, hi Piper," she said, and gave a little wave. "How you doing?"

"I'm okay," Piper said. "How are you?"

She figured that was probably a silly question.

"Surviving," Cally said. She put on a brave smile. "Thanks for asking."

Piper wasn't sure what to say next, so she politely offered Cally baked goods. "Cookie?"

"Oh, thanks," Cally said, and took one. She bit into it and chewed for a moment.

"Why is this so awkward?" she asked.

"I don't know," Piper said honestly. "That's why I went with baked goods. I always find them to be comforting when I'm feeling down."

"I'm not feeling down, honest," Cally lied. "I just want things to be normal again, that's all."

"You sure?" Piper asked cautiously. She didn't really believe Cally. "I think everyone wants that sometimes. I know I do."

Cally nodded. "We can always hope for the best, right? How come you want so much normalcy?"

"I guess because sometimes being magical scares me," Piper shrugged.

"I think normalcy around here wouldn't be normal, though," she added, somewhat amused.

"Oh, d'uh," Cally said. "You're a witch. I forgot." Cally looked at her cookie and back at Piper. "Is that how come you bake so well? Secrit witchy powers?"

"Believe it or not, I don't use magic when I bake. I think that's cheating," Piper said with a grin.

"Wow," Cally said. "So it's all natural talent? Neat."

"Just like you've got talent for building stuff, right?" Piper said. "I could never do that."

Veronica finally arrived back at the dorms after running detention and her quick shopping trip.

"Hey, Cally," she greeted when she saw her in the lobby. "How was your day?"

Cally shrugged. "Quiet," she said. "Yours?"

"Busy," Veronica said. "Half the school had detention today. Then I ran into town to do some shopping," she indicated the bags. "Oh! And I got you a copy of my room key until you can switch to a new room."

She put the bags down and pulled the key out of her pocket.

Cally bit her lip and looked up at Veronica. "Thanks. You didn't have to go to the trouble, you know."

"It was no trouble," Veronica assured her. "I had to go shopping anyway. Oh! If you want, tomorrow night me, Nadia and whoever else wants to go are going to head out to camp, build a fire, tell scary stories and eat junk."

"Scary stories, huh?" Cally said. "I'm in." She smiled a little, too.

"Good. We'll have fun," Veronica said. "What did you do today?"

"Read," Cally said. "Oh, and Piper stopped by and gave me a cookie."

"That was nice of her. Did she bake today?" Veronica asked. "I haven't baked lately."

"I didn't think to ask," Cally said. She scratched the back of her head. "Sorry."

"Don't worry about it," Veronica said. "It's no big deal."

She gave Cally a concerned look. "Did you sleep okay last night?"

"Eventually?" Cally said. "Not that the sofa wasn't comfortable, it was just... I guess as much as the cabin got me ready for sleeping alone, I wasn't ready for sleeping alone alone."

Veronica nodded. "That'll take some time to get used to," she said.

Cally nodded. "I can only imagine how hard it was for Sam last night."

"Sam?" Veronica asked, confused.

"Sorry, Anders," Cally said. "I always though it was kinda weird that we called each other by our last names, you know? I mean, I know we didn't like them that much, but..." Cally stopped and bit her lip, because she was starting to tear up again.

Veronica sat down next to Cally and put an arm around her. She knew that nothing she could say would make her feel better, but figured just knowing someone was there might help.

Cally took a deep breath, and rested her head against Veronica's shoulder. "Thanks," she whispered.

"You're welcome," Veronica said. "If you need to talk, I'll listen. Or we could go out and do something fun to get your mind off things."

Cally knew exactly what she needed. "Fun," she said. "Cause talking isn't gonna help, I don't think."

"Wanna go to Caritas?" Veronica asked. "Weevil's working tonight. I bet we can score some free drinks."

"Sure," Cally said. "Though I apologize ahead of time if I have one too many."

"Don't worry, I'll make sure nothing bad happens to you and that you make it back here safely," Veronica promised.

Cally nodded. "Wouldn't think you'd do anything less."

"Come on, let's go get all dolled up and paint the town red," Veronica said, jumping up from the couch and putting her hand out to help Cally up."

Cally took Veronica's hand and stood up. "I'm a bigger fan of orange," she said with a soft chuckle. "But red's good enough for me."
