Second Floor Common Room: Saturday Evening

Jack stashed a mysterious bag in the freezer - with 'Jack's - Don't Touch' scrawled across it - and then flopped down on the couch, grabbing the remote control.

Randomly flipping through channels, his attention was caught by sinister music and he watched in fascination as an improbable looking shark terrorized a beach side town.

He'd tuned into a shark movie marathon. Currently playing: Mandibles. Next up: Mandibles II and III, followed by Bottomless Cerulean Ocean and Shark Battle 3: Man, That's a Big Shark!.

Halfway through Mandibles, Jack was cheering for the shark.

Hamlet wandered down to the wandered down to the common room, and was pleasantly surprised to see Jack there and the TV baring. He grabbed a seat on one of the couches.

"It's good to see that the school isn't completely dead today."

"Which is more than can be said for people dumb enough to go swimming in shark infested waters." Jack laughed and pointed at the screen. "And not be incredibly insulting, but do I know you? I'm Jack, in case I don't."

Jaye isn't planning on staying anywhere for long, but it's like she's drawn to the badness. And she stands by the couch for a moment in silence until she has to say, "Go, Shark!"

"I know!" Jack looked up then made space on the couch next to him. "You can't help cheering for the sharks. The people are just too dumb."

"I'm Hamlet. I seem to recall that we met months and months ago, but--" he peers at Jack, "you look different, somehow."

"And I find that part of the draw of these films is seeing in what ways all the characters get eaten by the shark. Do they create them to be as annoying as possible?"

Jaye takes the seat, looking at Jack with a new appreciation. "You really do get it," she says.

"Of course. Always be on the winning side, and in this case, that's the sharks." He eyed her appreciatively. "And I have to say, you're looking particularly tempting tonight, Jaye."

"Why, thank you," she says. "Or does that just mean I look better than the sharks?"

"Pleasure to meet you again, Hamlet, and that explains it. Anything longer ago than a couple of months is a bit of a blur." Grinning, he added, "Think of me as an entirely new person. Only just as cute."

He glanced back at the screen. "I think they do. The best bit of watching these sorts of movies is yelling at the people not be so stupid. It's why I cheer for the sharks."

"Better than the sharks, better than the people, better than just about anything I've seen today," he replied. "Not to mention, if it was you in there," he waved at the screen, "the sharks would have been dealt with in the first ten minutes and you'd be basking in the adoration of the grateful townsfolk."

"Ah, that would explain it. In that case, I'm pleased to make your acquaintance again, Mr Jack Harkness." He smiled and offered his hand.

"Shouldn't the people know that if several people have already been eaten by a killer shark, it would be bad to dive in the same all alone with no protection? Or that you cannot killer a shark with a small gun? Or that wetsuits made entirely out of raw steak are never good to wear, no matter how inexpensive they were?"

Jaye raises an eyebrow, but can't help smile. "That may be the most flattering thing I've heard... pretty much ever," she admits. "Though really, the townsfolk are really dumb."

"And I yours, Hamlet." Jack took the offered hand, clasping it between both of his before releasing it.

"Maybe they think the sharks are full? If you have to go diving in shark infested waters, right after other people have been eaten is probably the best time."

Leaning closer, he ran a finger across her hand. "I find it hard to believe that's the most flattering thing you've ever heard," he said, grinning wickedly. "But they are very dumb. You'd be able to take over, and have them worshipping you as a goddess by the end of the week."

"I suppose that's one way of looking at it. They could always hopes that the sharks have filled up on the previous fool to get eaten."

He shakes his head as the first idiot in the movie gets eaten by Mandibles. "Not that one, however."

She might move a little closer. "Well, really, they'd just be learning what everyone should know."

Molly needed a distraction. Oh, look, shark movies.

She went into the room and sat down on the floor to watch.

Jack might take advantage of that and rest a hand on her shoulder, brushing his thumb up her neck and behind her ear. "What, that you should be worshipped as a goddess?"

Hamlet waved to Molly from the couch as she entered the room.

Jack winced slightly. "I want to feel sorry for him, but I can't. Anyone that stupid really is better off removed from the gene pool."

"Hey, Hamlet," Molly said and waved back. "You missed practice today."

Jack waved to the person he didn't know. "I'm Jack," he called. "And I don't think I know you, unless I do, but either way, hi."

"Maybe in a culture or two," she says quietly, and that sounds weird to her, but she'll deal with it. She's just going to shut up now, really.

"Did I?" He sighed. "I seem to miss quite a few of those. I'm often not around earlier in the day. Did I miss anything important?"

Jack raised an eyebrow. "But not in this one? You don't have designs on goddess-hood?" He laughed and leaned his shoulder against hers. "At least here, you'd be assured of a decent class of worshippers. I'm pretty sure they'd be smart enough to stay out of the water if it was full of sharks."
