The Dorm Roof, Monday morning

Peter led the way to the roof and stopped just before opening the door. "Now remember, until I open this door, we have no way of knowing if there are rich dogs out there. Thus is the theory of Schrödinger's Millionaire Puppies. Let's find out whether or not they exist."

Peter opened the door to the roof.

Molly nodded. She had her camera ready and held it up to start taking pictures as soon as Peter opened the door. Maybe she could catch something if there was a transitional phase between the millionaire puppies being and no being there. It was an auto focus camera so she closed her eyes. Just in case.

Peter looked out. Then he quickly checked around the stair enclosure just in case they were hiding.

"Either they don't exist, or they have a very quiet, invisible helicopter and escaped."

Molly opened her eyes and looked. "Darn. The parakeets must have warned them we were coming. They're probably halfway to Jamaica by now."

"Really? I would have thought the pigeons would be the stoolies," Peter said. "That's probably stereotyping the animals, though."

Molly shook her head sadly at his sweeping generalization. "Just a little. Plus, the pigeons are resentful against the puppies for always getting chased in the park. And with no repercussions since the puppies are all rich and influential. The pigeons would never help them get away."

"True. I apologize for assuming such a thing," Peter said. "I only hope the pigeons will forgive me."

Molly grinned. "I won't tell," she said before going to look around the roof some more. Just in case.

Peter looked around, too. Partially in case any hypothetical animals were hiding, but mostly for the view. "You know, this building is actually pretty tall. It almost reminds me a little of New York. The suburbs, obviously, but still."

Not even a diamond encrusted bone left behind. Molly came back from the other side of the building and looked out over the same view. She nodded. "I would always know I'm not in L.A. Maybe the light is different on this side of the continent or something. I suppose it could be a dimensional thing too. Maybe L.A. here would feel just as different to me."

"Well, obviously it's really different. This is just about as high as you're going to get, and there's not a guy calling himself a Norse god flying around, and almost no crime," Peter said. "But I'm kind of reminded of the quiet hours, when I have to get home from a big superhero fight before my aunt realizes that I've been out all night. Except I'm not speeding through this town in a panic. That's another difference."

Molly grinned. "We have a ship that can turn invisible. The only time we have to hurry to get back to the hideout by sunrise is when the invisibility thingy conks out."

"Ships and millionaire puppies turning invisible," Peter said. "Crazy world."

"Yeah, I do the solo hero thing, so I'm left to my own devices. Which, I mean, they're pretty good devices, if I do say so. But a vehicle would be nice, you know? A motorcycle, or a dune buggy or something."

Molly looked at him sceptically. "A lot of dunes in New York City that you'd need an actual dune buggy?"

"No, but it would be pretty unique, like a superhero's vehicle should be," Peter said. "I bet it would make a great toy."

"Where would you park it?"

"On the side of a wall if I could manage it, I figure. It would keep with the theme," Peter said.

"Wouldn't that still be kind of noticeable?" Molly asked. "I mean, 'hey, dune buggy webbed to the side of a building. I wonder who that belongs to.'"

"Oh, you mean when I'm not doing the hero thing," Peter said. "I know an abandoned warehouse I use for stuff. I could hide it there."

"It's too bad your parents weren't evil villains. That's where we got all of our cool stuff. Including our hideouts."

"I have a friend whose father is an evil villain. Hideouts all over the place," Peter said. "I don't know where they get the time to build and stock all of these hideouts."

"Evil minions," Molly said. "Or innocent dupes, more likely."

"Probably dupes. This guy was too good at covering for himself. He wouldn't let actual minions in on anything," Peter said. "Not that I'm complaining. I have enough minion issues with one of the other guys I keep fighting. He even has a ninja assassin. That's just not fair."

"We don't have to fight bad guys big enough to have minions very often," Molly said. "Mostly the ones who were our parents' minions and are just trying to grab power by filling the void. Other than that it's just normal criminals."

"Wow, your parents suck," Peter said simply.

Molly laughed. Probably all little bit harder than Peter's statement warranted, but it had been a long week.

"You're right. They did. And you don't even know the half of it," she finally said.

"I really don't," Peter said. "My parents were good people, and when they died my aunt and uncle kept up the status quo. So I just point to my friend's dad and say, 'Take away his Best Dad Ever mug and maybe hit him with it before he throws a fireball at me and calls me his son again.' If your parents were like that nutball, I'm really sorry for you."

"Thank you," Molly said, glancing down briefly before looking back out over the view. "After last week, I done thinking about my parents for a while though. So, let's change the subject." She looked back at Peter with a grin.

"Do you always fight alone or do you team up with other people sometimes?"

"I've had a few team-ups and a series called Ultimate Marvel Team-Up. Mostly just random meetings with other heroes that end up in a fight, but I've worked with a couple teams," Peter said. "And I had a girlfriend who was a hero, too, so we teamed up quite a bit for a couple months. Um, not dirty."

"But mostly it's just me against the world, and that works fine for me."

"I wouldn't have been able to stay on my own so I'm glad I had my friends. Otherwise, it would have been the mutant school for me."

"And instead you came to General Weirdo School," Peter said. "It all works out."
